Swimming sims can sit on a pool edge obstructed by platforms and objects

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.97.62.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Expansion Packs: All EXCEPT Cats & Dogs, High School Years, Seasons, Snowy Escape Game Packs: Dream Home Decorator, Outdoor Retreat, Spa Day, Vampires Stuff Packs: Laundry Day Stuff, Tiny Living, Vintage Glamour Stuff
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Build a pool with a ladder, then surround the pool edge with platforms and objects that sims can't walk through. Sims who are swimming will autonomously sit on the obstructed edge of the pool. You can also instruct a sim to 'Sit Here' by clicking on a platform next to the pool, regardless of height. The sim can only access this sitting location by first getting into the pool. Sims outside the pool do not exhibit the same behaviour.
What happens when the bug occurs? The sim appears to be inside the platform or object. When they stand up, the sim will shift away from the object to an open tile. If the sim is sitting inside an object, going into build/buy mode and selecting the object will also reset and move the sim. When a sim is sitting inside a platform I've only observed them get back into the pool, I haven't seen them glitch up to the top of the platform.
What do you expect to see? If a pool ledge is obstructed by a platform or impassable object, a sim should not attempt to sit on that part of the pool ledge when they're swimming. Similar to how placing a wall or half wall next to the pool prevents sims from sitting on the ledge.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. Unsure. It wasn't happening a year ago when I first built this lot, so I suspect a patch in between then and now. I hadn't installed mods or made changes to the lot during that time.

Here is a sim sitting inside an impassable object on the pool edge.

In this case the impassable object is the tan Appropriated Ruin decoration that was moved up to the very edge of the pool.

Here is a sim sitting inside a platform on the pool edge.

As a workaround (not pictured) I had to run a half wall along that line between the pool and the platform, to prevent sims from sitting there.

  • @printfJess Did you place the objects with or without moo ? Does it happen if you just do platforms with no extra objects ?

Does it happen with any objects or just this particular one ?
  • @crinrict You can answer these questions (and more!) by following the instructions under the heading "Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves?"

    [Edit] To answer frankly:

    1) you can't "moo" platforms

    2) you can replicate this bug by placing counters next to the pool without using "moo"

    3) most impassable objects can be moved towards the pool ledge without using "moo" and simply holding down ALT

While on land, sims know they can't go there, simba.

The bug is specific to interactions available while swimming in pools.

    @printfJess
    1) I was talking about the objects (which I did specify)
    2) I'm a volunteer and I don't have the time to try and replicate every single bug that is reported in here, especially if I have to build something for it. I usually try with questions for further clafiication.
    3) That's why I asked if you used it cause placing with moo often causes issues with objects being placed over each other, could also happen with Sims and routing issues.

  • All good. I tested this in maaany different ways before deciding to post in bug reports. I wanted to ensure what I was encountering wasn't a user issue.

If you want to explore this bug further yourself, please follow the instructions on how to repeat; requires only base game to replicate. If you don't have the time then all good as well.

@printfJess I don't really 😉 Not into building at all and I would mess up.

Leaving this to EA to decide if they need more info.
