Re: [FIXED] [S] Holidays Only Appearing for Three Sims in Household

Thank you @JMPescado I found it through MATY for anyone who couldn't find it quickly, I hope EA releases a fix though soon for console players! This worked when i just put the 'Awesome' folder that comes out of the zip file right into my mods, it did not work taking the things out and putting the subfolder in another folder. Just leaving it all together works after deleting cache files ofc. I had to figure this out as the instructions confused me a bit and I wanted to share how I got it working !

edit: @jormachan 'More Awesome Than You' has it 🙂

  • "Delete Cache File" is basically a panacea people peddle. I don't think I've ever had a single issue that was actually helped by doing that, and I can't see any mechanism of action for why it would be necessary for a very small script mod that doesn't cache anything. The cache is saved for a reason, if you keep deleting it frivolously, your game performance will suffer until it gets rebuilt. It's especially funny when people bill this as a solution for "my game is slow". Seriously, stop randomly deleting the cache. The only time you'd even want to do that is if you've gone on a rampage deleting CC and sims, resulting in cache entries of things that don't exist.

Thanks for the detailed instructions, @126Alex , I was confused as well.

Can I ask whether you also needed to download and put the accompanying MATYlib file that was said to be required? Or was it not necessary?

@espeon9466So to be fully transparent I actually put the 'Awesome' folder right into my mods + the zip file and the zip file for the MATYlib file. I had to troubleshoot these more than I'm comfortable admitting lol--it took a lot of trial and error to get this to work! My own subfolders, no folders, one or the other, the MATYlib file from the download seperate from the one in the Awesome folder--all the options lol.

Basically, I don't think it was necessary to add the two zip files (one for the MATYlib only download and one from the fix download--when unzipping both I'd only get one thing? Like--either or I couldn't get two package files having both the MATYlib and Fix zip files in my downloads folder.)

LOL longwinded... So I think you only need the Awesome folder directly in the Mods. That and the two zip files are all that I have in my mods for this fix--and those are the only zip files I'll keep in there. It works--all my sims have Holidays again, I am thankful and won't touch it.

@126Alex Cool, thanks! You mean files right, not zip files surely? I had thought the game doesn't read zip files. XD

Both the MATYlib and the holidayfix files were in separate Awesome folders when I downloaded, but it's fine, I'll give it some experimentation of my own haha. Thanks for sharing your experience though! I have a holiday coming up in my game, so will see how things go. I have been very heartbroken over holidays not working for the entire family so hopefully I can somehow figure this out. 🤞🏻

Well wish the author of that fix would come back and explain if we need those extra folders all their files were packed into or not to make the fix and their libraries work together.

@khitteh When I tried, I only put the Awesome folder in my Mods file and it showed up in my mods list as "Awesome". I only put the holidayfix.py file in that folder for now (that was how it was downloaded anyway), will see if it works. If not, I'll add in the matylib.py file that he said was also required.

I think it's correct that we'll need both files as the one they stated as also being needed is a libraries file (which will be needed to make the fix run).

My only question is if we need to nest these inside so many folders as they'd packed them into, because the way I set up my mods folder is with no nested folders (and only ever used package files, never seen a mod running raw and using py before). I've looked at the code and it doesn't reference a location or the awesome folder, but who knows how this stuff needs to run (I don't).

So if the author wouldn't mind a bit of clarifying on the whole folder nesting thing and if this is actually required for their mod to run, that would be nice.

I can confirm the fix worked for me using exactly these steps:

    A. Download BOTH files. They're BOTH required.

         1. holidayfix.py

         2. matylib.py

    B. Open the "Awesome" folder.  Inside is one folder called "Scripts".  Open the "Scripts" folder.  Put both (see above) files here.

    C. Copy the "Awesome" folder and all sub-contents and paste it into your Sims 4 Mods folder.

    D. Start the game.  Even a holiday that was active (and actively broken) will load correctly for the sims who weren't participating before.

    -----

This worked for me.  Whether the Awesome>Scripts sub-folder combination is totally necessary? I don't know.  I stopped tinkering with it once I got the fix to work!

    -----

I can CONFIRM that pasting both the files STRAIGHT into my mods folder (like I would any other mod) did NOT work.  The fix ONLY worked once I tried putting the files into the "Scripts" folder (which is contained inside "Awesome" folder) and moved "Awesome" into the Mods folder.

    -----

You can look at the two images below for the visual example of the above steps, which worked for me.

    I hope this helps someone.

@khitteh Seems you're correct. 🙂 I've tried it without the library file and it didn't work. Popped the file in and it did.

I have the script files about two folders deep in my Mods folder. Documents > The Sims 4 > Mods > Awesome > Scripts (see pic) Hope that helps you 🙂

@LadyXelda  Thank you so much for the explanation and the visual!

A mod is only useful if we can get it to work! I'm disappointed that EA didn't fix this already.
