Re: Joystick issues

I use a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 myself. $200 well spent over a decade ago.

Personally, I swear by Realmware's BF4 Settings Editor. It is a quick and easy way of setting up your joystick config. Go through and choose to clear all joystick configs everywhere, and then start from scratch. It sounds like something's conflicting with another setting (easy to do when the button descriptions make no sense).

That said, I haven't tested jets in BF4 yet, only helis (still waiting for release here). Will post again once I've tested what you're referring to.

Edit: I don't have the same problem. I can shoot while turning. I strongly advise clearing and resetting your joystick config with BF4 Realmware Settings Editor.

However, I do notice that when braking the jet it is very slow to turn - before the jet has fully slowed down. It looks like "fast" is the optimum turning speed now. Maybe they're reading the analogue signal from the throttle. I'm not sure.

kuiriel - I gave that tool a try and yes - that DID fix the problem.  I went to every tab of settings and hit the clear joystick button, then I just went back and explicitly bound what I wanted.  I can now hold the trigger down and still steer.  Thanks for the suggestion!

I think I am now in the same state you are - if I greatly slow down the throttle on jet, turning is almost impossible.

I wonder if this is tied to something I noticed from BF3 (I haven't done enough flying yet in BF4 to confirm if still the case).  In BF3, the throttle for the helicopter behaved in an continuous fashion.  That is, I could increase the throttle "just a little".  For planes, it was an all-or-nothing thing.  To maintain that best turn velocity, I had to constantly adjust my throttle back and forth to maintain somewhere near the desired constant speed.  It would be great if planes would behave the same as helicopters to give a better throttle.

Yes, I have to do the same thing in jets - tweak the throttle up and down repeatedly. Throttle in jets is recognized as a button press, not as an axis, it would seem. It's a pity.

The newest version (only days old) of Realmware's Settings Editor for BF4 has actually fixed the complete stall when slowing down effect - it was about the free look being 'hard bound'. See if that helps.

Allo?? EA? Dice? are you working on it?

  • This answer does not solve the problem. Please unmark as solved.

While pressing a trigger button on the MS Sidewinder 2 Joystick you can not TURN any more.

    BF4 on Win7.

Did work in BF3. What a shame.

dawolfat - Sorry it didnt' work for you.  It did for me.

Make sure you clear out ALL joystick settings and then explicitly set what you need.

To clarify - by all settings, I mean going to each individual tab (Common, Infantry, etc) and hitting "clear".
