Re: BF4 Graphics on PS3 and Xbox 360
OP the current state of graphics of BF4 is not DICE or EA holding anything back or shortchanging last gen console owners. The PS3 and Xbox 360 are antiquated platforms from a hardware standpoint. The PS3 and Xbox 360 are very underpowered to run BF4 and the system resources are literally stressed to is max in order to run the very highly optimized versions of BF4 that were released.
To give you perspective PS3 and Xbox 360 hav 512MB of RAM (256MB for VIdeo and 256MB for processing - in the PS3 it's static RAM so the system is unable to use more than 256MB of RAM even when needed and in the Xbox 360 it's dynamic RAM so 360 can compensate slightly better than the PS3 for system resource demand) whereas the PC version of the game requires at a minimum 4GB of RAM (remcommended 8 GB) so the PS3 and Xbox 360's very old technology is literally stressed to it's maximum capacity even after a lot of optimization work and removing extraneous items from the games such as the trees on Caspian border. Just like you can't expect a standard definintion television to play HD content and look good you can't expect 2006 graphics processors to play a 2013 game and expect it to look like the current gen console does.
In order to get an appreciation for the amount of optimization play Caspian border on your PS3 and then go to you tube and look up BF4 Caspian Border game play on PS4 and you will see that they literally had to defoliate Caspian Border to get it to run on PS3. It's nothing against PS3 and 360 players, it's just technology limitations of an 8 year old console. I can confidently say that because I play BF4 on all 5 of the released platforms and have personally witnessed the performance and game play differences.
Regarding your point about BF3 looking better, Frostbite 2 is not as resource intensive as Frostbite 3 which playes into the level of optimization needed.
