Re: PC Controller NOT Working

@TheManateeDude wrote:

I’ve tried playing through both origin and EA Play via DS4. Steam on PS4 controller settings got no recognized inputs whatsoever. With DS4 the face buttons all registered as D Pad inputs (but not in a way that made sense) triggers were A and B and nothing else registered. I was able to manually re-map everything to get gameplay functioning but the menus were still inoperable on controller. Too confusing and difficult to do quickly in a match to reorder a loadout.

Hi @TheManateeDude,

Maybe this can be of some help to you, because the PS4 controllers can be set up to work perfectly fine on PCs.

Matter of fact both aka the Xbox One and PS4 controllers works fine for playing BF4 on PC!

Some guiding steps:

  • You will need to connect the controller via the USB cable to your PC, as you appear to do.  You can at later stage connect direct via bluetooth if you have the compatible hardware for this also on your PC.  But start first by using a wired connection from controller to the PC.
  • When connecting it, you will then be able to open your Device Manager in Windows and find it there.

  • If there is a yellow triangle here for your controller, then its because the Windows drivers for it have not been properly installed.  And that will then cause that your game will not recognize that you have any controller connected to be used either...
  • In the BF4 game on PC it will not refer to a controller, as far as I recall, but still utilize the Options/Controls/Mouse Settings for your adjustments of aka sensitivity etc...
  • You will however need to go in and check if the default Key Binding values are set for your 'joy stick settings' as these are the ones used for your controller for the game play.  As again otherwise, nothing will happen when pressing any buttons or moving the joysticks on your controller.

  • As you refer to your current setup is by using STEAM, then here are the pre-requisites for you to enable controller:

    Go to the Settings menu in Steam (under Steam on the taskbar).
    Select the Controller menu.
    Click "General Controller Settings."
    Check the box marked "PlayStation Configuration Support." and next to it you also have the Xbox, if that is your controller type.
    Then connect the DualShock 4 to your PC and you are good to go !

  • Good luck soldier !

    Hey @michkid05

    Did you have the chance to try any of the suggestions that were posted above? Are you still not able to use your controller afterward?

  • i tried them all after looking online i have seen that i have to launch the game through origin but as i am playing with gamepass and origin doesn't support ea play through gamepass im not able to attempt that solution

    Ah, I see. Thanks for following up!

    Would you mind posting a DxDiag when you have the chance so we can take a look? You can find more info on how to pull one up at the EA Help website. Once you have the text file please attach it to this thread. Thanks again.

    @michkid05

    Thanks! I appreciate that.

    Looking through the DxDiag, I noticed that it looks like there's an Oculus device connected to your PC. When you've got the chance can you try disconnecting it to test and see if that makes any difference? I've seen cases in the past where having similar devices connected has led to some weird issues, so I'm curious if that makes a difference here.

  • I have the exact same issue.

    Anyone installing and running BF4 now via GamePass / Origin, in the current version of Windows 10 (this is where I think the issue is) will have the exact same issue.

    There is something wrong with Battlefield 4's understanding of a gamepad controller in Windows 10. I even tried to remap BF4's understanding of the controller against what it thinks each movement of stick and button press does, it this ultimately won't work either, as the way it understands the triggers as a controller axis doesn't give you the ability to execute a shot. :D

    No other game I am running on my PC has this issue.

    Can we please solve this together? Happy to provide whatever you need.

    It has nothing to do w/ a connected Oculus device, btw.

  • The headset wasn't plugged in so I deleted the oculus app and disabled all of the devices and still didn't work

  • update - i've been able to "fully" resolve this issue for bf4 so far, haven't tried other battlefields yet.

    using steam as the mediation layer for controller override works perfectly. launching the non-steam game through the steam application w/ appropriate controller settings applied enables bf4 to work perfectly w/ latest xbox series x wireless controllers on windows 10, WITHOUT wires.

    best.

  • I tried this and just as it is with the EA app my controllers work fine, but none of the control prompts show the proper A, B, X, Y, RB, LB only the keyboard letter/switch to hit instead. Is there a fix for that?
