Does it track anything at all or not as much as you think it should?
It's been a while since I did this assignment, but I think you have to do the 300 damage in one round.
So probably an Operations game might be the best.
I am not sure about it, but maybe not all assault gadgets will count. Have you tried with different gadgets, AT Mines, Dynamite, AT Grenades?
If yes, does it make a difference in the tracking?
I think only AT-Gun tracks but as you can imagine, quite hard to get 300 damage when some hits only get 8 points?
Haven't got my AT-Mine kill yet. :D
But I tried all others which can easily hit 300 per round and they don't track at all.
If the ATGun tracks, you should be able to get it.
One good hit can do about 20 damage.
If you play on soissons in an operations game as defender, there should be many enemy tanks to attack and as the different sectors count as one round, this should give you the most time possible to get the 300.

Some assignments are quite hard to get and take a lot of attempts until you can get them.
Thanks, I appreciate your help. It is just frustrating and clearly broken. Many veteran players got it easily because the bug was only introduced later.
I wasn't aware of any bug considering this assignment.
I completed it somtime in the last year, don't know exactly when.
But I totally agree with you, that some assignments can be very frustrating.
But then on the other hand, once you get it done, the satifaction is higher.

That's correct, @SharpGoblin, it needs to be done in a single round.
Pretty sure I did mine on Amiens.
