That being said, i'm still not 100% sure going away from it was a good thing (it was "fun" stopping someone charging through a door with an automatic shotgun with a single stab while you were mid-reload and about dead) but i can see why they wanted the insta-stab gone while facing someone even if i miss it a little.
The counter system was just a bit too flakey, though undeniably fun when you pulled it off. - ninjapenquinuk4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Fringerunner With BFVs attrition then you could still skewer a fair few people with a last ditch (panic) melee attack with the heavier of the weapons.
- Fringerunner4 years agoSeasoned Ace@ninjapenquinuk Oh i remember, was only pointing out where we went from one-hit kills to counters to the 1/5 system.
It's fairly clear they wanted to stop the hard counter stab when someone was holding a chokepoint, and i really didn't have an issue with that, but i also thought it was a somewhat pointless mechanic to introduce "types" of melee weapons, melee was/is (and imo should be) a very last ditch option when both primary and secondary weapons are out and/or you simply panic because you're nose to nose with someone.
"Complicating" it with damage profiles per weapons seemed a touch pointless to me, but i can also see why some would find it interesting, to me though i would have been fine with a uniform damage model and the weapon type being more visual flavor than anything.
