Re: Unable to connect to friends

i downloaded the EA desktop app, but the game refuses to launch from it and instead is defaulting to origin, which in turn is needed to launch the game. If i purchased the game through steam am i unable to view the game in my "collections" tab without buying the game again?

i have also migrated the game files over from steam, so i am able to launch the game from the desktop app. I am still unable to connect to my friend as i can see he is online through the app, but in game there is no one being shown as online. His and my settings are set to online as well/

@xCMDR_Kane, ah alright you bought the game via Steam, no Origin. Good to know.
Either way; when you search for the EA ID (Origin username) in-game, are you then still unable to find each other?
  • using the origin and EA desktop app i can see him as being online and even send messages, but in game i am always shown that i have no friends online nor will it give me any results should i look his EA ID up in game through the social function. i even made a custom experience for him to look up and find so we could add each other like that but despite looking up that specific experience, nothing will appear.

  • @EA_Leeuw I'm also having almost this exact same problem. I'm on PC, bought the game through Steam, but I use Origin as well. I can't find my PS5 friend. His PS5 username is exactly the same as his Origin name, so it should be easy. Worse is that he also can't find my username, yet cross-play is enabled for him. I have no issues playing with Xbox friends of mine, but I've yet to play with my PS5 friend :/ . Hope this can be resolved soon, as he and I have enjoyed cross-play on other titles and we were very excited to play BF2042.

    Hey @Teebleton,

One thing to make sure of as well for your PS5 friend is that your friend needs to have the dedicated PS5 version installed/launched if he wants to play with PC players via cross-play. Are you sure of this?

@xCMDR_Kane, very strange indeed. It could also be a setting on your/their EA or console account that prevents you from seeing/invite each other. For your EA account, make sure that the options are correctly selected here: https://myaccount.ea.com/cp-ui/privacy/index.
  • I'm having this same issue with PC and Xbox versions of the game. When we are both online we both don't appear in the friends list in game or EA application to invite each other to the game. I attempted to make a game in the portal and have them connect but they couldn't find the portal game. They also attempted to make a portal game and have me join and I couldn't find that ether. We then attempted to find the same portal server that was already running and we couldn't find one with a matching name.
