@Joshua_Au, hmm, that's odd. In that case, it's possible that the Steam overlay is to blame here. Have you tried to disable and re-enable it already, or reassign the shortcut to some other keys?

    Turns out it was the steam overlay. I had turned if off a while ago and forgot by going to steam > right click BF 2042 > Properties > disable overlay. 

    Once enabled it worked. There are two places you can mess with the overlay - one is in settings (which affects all games) and one is in the properties of the game itself.
