crashes on startup (PC/WinXP 32bit)

After having a nightmare getting the Activation Manager to cooperate (3 days!), I know have the problem where Dead Space 2 makes the desktop go black, and the game failing to initiate.  This means I have to restart the compter (winkey - u - r).  What the dickens can I do about it.  I've been to every forum, looked at all possible methods, and nothing works.  I downloaded it from Steam, in case you ask.

Scott.

****  Having been able to see what the problem is; here is the error...

szAppName : deadspace2.exe szAppVer : 1.0.0.0 szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000

Tada!

Now, this being the gamers self-help forum, I'm not expecting any help.  However, I'd be overjoyed to be proved wrong.

Well, how much more help will the actual EA Support be, what with their reputation and all...

Scott.

Is the error you copied an actual error message?

Since your operating system is just matching the minimum requirements, I feel it can't hurt to check that you are meeting/exceeding them:

OS: Windows XP (SP2), Windows Vista, Windows 7
CPU: 2.8 GHz processor or equivalent (any Pentium 4 2.8 GHz or better, AMD Athlon64 3000+ or better, any Athlon64 X2 or Core Duo processor)
RAM: 1 GB (XP), 2 GB (Vista or Win7) or more
DISC DRIVE: 8x speed or faster CD/DVD drive
HARD DRIVE: At least 10 GB of free space
VIDEO: 256 MB Video Card and Shader Model 3.0 required. NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or better (7300, 7600 GS, and 8500 are below minimum system requirements) ATI X1600 Pro or better (X1300, X1300 Pro and HD2400 are below minimum system requirements)
SOUND: Direct 9.0c compatible sound card

In any case could you post a dxdiag so we could have some idea of your specs and how it might affect game startup?

Some common problems encountered while trying to launch Dead Space 2 stem from having peripherals or controllers plugged in while trying to boot the game. Try to unplug any and all besides your mouse and keyboard and see if it helps.

Can you explain the methods that you have been trying?

    Thanks. 😕mileyhappy:
