I have the same exact problem, when i run it on my laptop it runs perfectly fine and smooth, same with my other brother's laptops, but when my older brother runs it on his high perfoming pc (Cooling Master), it has the same issue as you do when me and him try to play together. Sorry i don't have the solution as i also have the same problem and i want it fixed.

Hi, that's odd alright, it looks like the game is running as fast as possible. Perhaps this is related to the hardware change that was made. If you haven't done so already, please reinstall the game, hopefully this will help the frame limiter to kick in.
Doesn't work.. i have the same problem.. Offline games runs good.. Online games run at 10084059723908473289071298 fps :P
Fix Please!

Inability to change compatibility mode might be due to the games being installed under Program Files. The first thing I did that was change the Origin Games folder, since the gigantically long paths and inability to write into their own game folder cause tons of problems for older games.

I also have this problem. Fine in sp but way too fast in a network game. Has anyone found a workaround?
Does anyone have a workaround? I see people playing this game in multiplayer matches on YouTube so I would imagine there has to be one.
Got the same problem. Yet to find a fix. I've turned off Hyperthreading on my CPU (no change).
Also tried playing with the settings on my graphics card, nothing has helped. Did you guys ever work this out?? It's driving me insane.
I'VE FIXED IT!
It's related to the FPS of the game. In single player mode this is capped to 30 FPS. In multiplayer, the cap is removed. With modern PC's the FPS flies out of control and takes the animations of the trees, waves, game speed with it.
The fix is quite simple.
- Download NVIDIA Profile Inspector
- Launch the tool, and click teh little nvidia icon on the right hand side next to "driver verson"
- Under "Sync and Refresh" change Frame Rate Limiter to 60 fps
- Hit Apply Changes
Start the game and go for it!
There's a way you can set this up to ONLY affect generals, rather than your whole system. Watch this video to see how that is done:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pH9D__g1yqsAnother way to fix it is using gen tools http://gentool.net/
download and install it. When generals is running press the insert key and it opens a menu where you can limit the frame rate 30, 60, etc.
The game was running at like 400 frames per second when my trees were spazzing out.
When my Dad plays it on our old HP PC, it runs perfectly fine. But when I play multiplayer on our new HP Pavillion, (which is meant for gaming) it has this issue. I think the computer just runs too fast???
Thanks TommGunn! It worked just fine using NVIDIA Profile Inspector!

It is even more efficient to use the Framerate-limiter in Gentool. This way you limit the Framerate and thus prevent this issue from occuring. Set the FPS at 30 for normal game speed. Gentool can be downloaded from here: https://www.gentool.net/
Edit: oops, see @Grefranger already proposed this solution too. It is btw a much better solution as this FPS limit will stay even if you completely reinstall the graphics driver.
Ok so I wanted to get back into this, so I decided to give GenTool a go. I like what they've done, but the fact the tool stops the camera height fixes from working in a multiplayer game makes it absolutely useless. The game is totally unplayable when you can see a total of 2 buildings on screen. I wasted a few hours on this thinking I was doing something wrong but I final found out it seems to be by design.. I'm guessing they did it to force an even playing field in multiplayer matches? Happy to be told I'm missing something here..but if I'm right - it's utterly useless.
I'm going to stick with my way for now. For anyone reading this - this is what I've done:
1. Install Zero hour from Origin (C&C Ultimate Collection)
2. Google for GameData.ini with the camera height fix and add it to install directory "\Data\INI"3. Edit resolution in "\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data\Options.ini" I've set mine to "Resolution = 1920 1200"
4. I found a "lag fix" which involves copying a custom "INIZH.big" into the install directory. Not sure if it helps but we'll see.
5. Finally to stop the frame rate issue, i found the Nvidia tool didn't seem to be working so I've installed something else to limit the frame rate to 30FPS (RivaTunder Statistics Server)
