Re: Kane's Wrath "Fatal Error - Exception in Exception Handler"

Hmm. Doesn't seem like there's anything specifically problematic in there.

I know some of these games require some older DirectX components to be installed to run correctly; to be precise, the redistributable pack 9.0c, from 2010.

Maybe this could fix your problem?

[EDIT]

The "Exception in exception handler" issue has been confirmed as a problem with certain drivers of the Intel HD graphics cards. The issue has been solved in the latest drivers, though, so update your drivers.

[EDIT AGAIN]

It seems the problem has reappeared in later drivers. The only solution that has been found so far is to downgrade the drivers to a version from around/before June 2014; the problem does not seem to appear in that driver.

[YET ANOTHER EDIT]

Note that if you have a dedicated graphics, like AMD or NVidia, then you should go into your graphics settings and make sure the program is specifically set to be handled by your dedicated graphics card.

  • Thanks Nyerguds - Seems that was what it was. Not sure why exactly, given that Tib Wars doesn't seem to need it, but I've just installed the redistributable pack you suggested and it's firing up perfectly fine now. You can be sure I'll be keeping that file somewhere safe in case of future problems!

    Hi Nyerguds.

I am having the same issue so I followed the link you posted and I downloaded the d3dx9_43_ x86 for MS runtime.  I am not that technical of a user though.  Any advice you could share as to how I extract this and install would be really appreciated!!!

    Thank you!

I am having the same problem but the Direct X Redistribute pack does not work. I've read where it might be a problem with the integrated video card on my laptop. I don't really have a viable option to update my graphic card so that is not an option. I really want to be able to play CC3. Can you please help? Why doesn't EA resolve this? Could there be something that I am doing wrong with the Direct X install?

    What can i do?
i have a Lenovo L450 with Intel HD graphics 5500 on Windows 10.
I tried pretty much everything and nothing works.
But since this is a problem with Intels drivers i dont know what to do since i have tried all the different drivers and none of them work. The oldest driver was released in 2015. so is it possible my drivers are to new? lol
CAN ANYONE HELP ME. Intel sux

    Hi

Have an Acer 7750G-6645, this game used to work back before EA messed with it. Have not changed computers, DirectX not solving the issue the "Call" command manages to launch past the "unhandled exception" error to "disconnected from server" after putting in the correct name & password.

I can no longer update video drivers because I switched BIOS to unlock the dedicated video card features (AMD 7760), but processor is i5-2450m.

Leshcat's last drivers that allow manipulation of video cards is 14.4. If I mess with intel drivers it throws off the entire video card setup.

I will not mess up a well working PC just for 1 game that EA doesn't want us to play anymore.

How convenient for a ruthless corporation to dictate what you can do with your paid for software. "just go buy a new game you bum".

    Thanks All.

    @Cyberat

As far as we've determined, the issue is due to Intel HD graphics cards drivers; it has nothing to do with EA. And it didn't "stop working because they messed with it" either; the game was simply never created to run on this hardware; it was created to run on the hardware that existed ten years ago. I'm fairly sure the original DVD release of the game would have exactly the same error. 🤨

There's a rather gigantic difference between "changing a game causing it to no longer work" and "no longer updating a game to make it work on the thousands of new hardware setups that are created on a daily basis". 😞

  • Where would one find this older driver? I have a Dell Latitude E7450with a intel core i5.  I've tried updating the drivers following your link with no results?  Should i change the compatibility?  I have windows 7.

Hi all, I've been playing Tiberium Wars 3 and Kane's Wrath for a few years every now and then without issue. I've played only on Windows 7 (AMD's R9 380 card) and just a couple days ago I upgraded to Windows 10. All of a sudden those two games don't work, showing me that Exception in Exception Handler error and crashing. I'm pretty sure that the AMD driver that I have currently installed is the same one that ran the games perfectly fine the last time. So it's probably not that. I've tried reinstalling the games and running them as administrators. I've also run them in compatibility mode for all the previous versions of Windows, none of them worked. Also, I have my monitor connected to my GPU so it's using my GPU for sure. I get this thread is old and I might not get answers but I haven't managed to get the games working by myself so I hope someone can give me a hand!!

    Desktop specs:

    Intel's i5-2500 CPU

    AMD's R9 380 GPU

    8 GB of RAM

    Windows 10 64-bit

    I have the same issue.

I run AMD GPU and CPU, with no on-board or integrated graphics.

I've tried EVERY SINGLE COMPATIBILITY SETTING, etc.

    still doesn't launch
