Re: C&C side menu with build options not visible

It generally just means your graphics card does not meet minimum requirements.

Though, specifically, the issue appears to be DirectX 11 compatibility:

Note that some graphics cards claim to support DirectX 11, but don't really support it fully. Make sure you have a card that properly, completely supports DirectX 11.

If your computer has an on-board graphics card, check your control panel and make sure the C&C Remaster isn't using that one instead of your actual high performance card.

  • Hi-

I can confirm this is not correct in my case, and it probably does have something to do with a setting somewhere else.

    My evidence is as follows:

I run a laptop with ⭐ Intel graphics (620UHD) and 16GB RAM on a i8 in Ubuntu on 2 4k monitors. Running this game on a VM in Windows resulted in me suffering these issues (black sidebar, many of the "sliders" in the options menu were simply invisible, etc). Following a deactivation of the 3D acceleration, the game played, but obviously extremely laggy.

I then partitioned my drive and am now dualbooting with a W10, and following all driver updates I had some initial black screen issues (which were btw solved by reducing resolution), the game works totally fine, even with hundreds of units in HD mode.

Point being, it's not the hardware that is the problem, but settings within the game and within your PC setup.

Given the prevalence of users that seem to able to play many other games except this one, it sort of suggests that there must be a couple of tweaks with respect to C&C settings that makes the game playeable, especially along with some driver updates. As this is a "throwback title" for many of us (who now probably play fewer games than before), making the game more flexible with respect to potential PC setups and a set of official suggestions in terms of what to do to fix this issue would make very many people happy who otherwise will return the game.

@johnsmizz Intel UHD 620 is rated for DirectX 12 though. The actual core issue is non-DX11-compatible cards.

I edited my post to make that more clear.

  • So here we are with no decent response from an official account. Maybe the graphics card is not supported but why doesn't the entire game itself run like crap? The game runs perfectly except those few side bar assets being loaded or displayed. I really hope that some of the tips and tricks in this topic has helped someone else.

I have requested a refund for this game. 😞

I'm guessing, because apparently the sidebar specifically is the part using these DirectX 11 features that these older graphics cards don't support.
