Re: My game keeps crashing
Are you far into the game? It tends to crash more often on bigger save files.
One way to reduce the number of crashes is to reduce the CPU affinity to only one core. To do so:
- Start the game.
- Press ctrl + shift + esc to go to the task manager.
- Right click the game in the list and 'go to details'.
- Find the relevant process and 'set affinity'.
- Uncheck all but 1 CPU core.
If you don't want to do all that every time you launch the game, you can set the CPU affinity permanently. Here's a YouTube guide that explains it. (Note: The guide uses a different program as an example and sets it to 2 cores. Keep in mind to not follow the instructions too closely. You want only 1 core.)
The downside is that the game will perform worse, but that shouldn't be a big issue on modern CPUs.

I have tried restarting my laptop and updating it (I doubt it needs updating, it's a pretty old game.)
What do you mean with updating? Have you tried repairing the game? In Origin, right click the game and select the repair option. In steam it's called "verify integrity of game cache," which is somewhere in the game's properties.
There are certain moments in the game that tend to crash more often if you've been playing uninterrupted for a while. For instance, at the end of the sloth demon and broodmother fights. I assume this is tied to the game's memory leak. The game will have longer load times and a higher tendency to crash if you've been playing for a while. Turning the game off and on again will help with that.
So quicksave often!
