Yes, that's good information. I've tested the game on every computer my family owns (including extended family) One AMD GPU Nvidia 760,970, Titan both single and dual GPU. I play on dual Titans. Can't get a CTD or even a freeze on any of them and two of them, one of the 760 and the 970 user play regularly on those computers. All have Norton AVG and it is running so, it very well could be AVG or perhaps AVG, Kapersky, and a few others.
Everyone having this problem needs to disable their anti virus, malware and any other related tools and see if that help. Try uninstalling them if just disabling fails. If that solves your problem post what you disabled or uninstalled in this thread. Maybe we can get a short list of one or two programs that cause the problem.

I just started having this problem and have been playing steadily for over a year. Have re-installed it, but not much else. Thought I would add my details in case it helps with solving the problem.

Atyar100, you need to update your graphics drivers, they are very out of date.
Driver Date/Size: 8/26/2015 04:46:21, 15512888 bytes
That's drivers from August of LAST YEAR.

EDIT: This post suggests the issue can be fixed by adding an exception to AVG, rather than disabling/uninstalling it. So anyone hesitant about disabling their AV protection or finding a new AV program can try this method instead. Instructions are in the linked post. 🙂
MORE EDIT: This problem also occurs with Avast. Adding exceptions for the game, Origin and the game folder within your users folder in Windows seems to help with this issue with either AV program. The exceptions may need to be redone if there is an update to Origin or the AV program (or the game, but there shouldn't be any further updates to the game).
@Atyar100 You can find the most recent driver for your GPU and system here. See Fred_vp's post at the end of this thread for information about doing a clean install (applies to all versions of Windows).
Also, @AWildFlygineer @mckrackin5324 @Jackal_CB if you're using AVG, try temporarily disabling it or uninstalling it, see if that helps at all (if temporarily disabling doesn't work, please try uninstalling it just to rule it out completely, it's easy enough to reinstall). If you're not using AVG, let us know, so far it seems to be a common denominator between people with this issue. 😉
Thanks for your patience, all 🙂

Well shieet. Having tried turning off AVG in the past I honestly didn't think this would work. My game now runs fine and dandy, but ONLY when I specifically open AVG from the notifications section of the toolbar, and select temporarily disable AVG. Now that I've done this I remember a similar situation happening with The Elder Scrolls Online when it first came out (£70 for a collector's edition...wasted). Thanks to everyone who posted here, and I sincerely hope that the AVG fix works for you too. At this point if I have kids, I'm naming them DarkAmaranth1966 and Niah_Dark, regardless whether they get bullied in school or hate me for it. You guys are the best.

In the interest of the others with the issue, should I mark the page solved? It is for me, but may not be for the others.
- Anonymous10 years ago
Thanks but, the kid might get less bullying if it's a girl and you name her Amaranth, - Ami for short. :P Could try my other screen name, Arucana but, that's a chicken that lays multi colored eggs LOL.
Glad your game is working now. 🙂

@AWildFlygineer Glad it worked for you. 🙂 This solution has worked for several others, so marking it as solved may help people who have the issue and don't feel like searching through 7 pages of us troubleshooting to figure it out 😉
Hopefully the next time AVG does an update (they happen quite frequently) the issue will be fixed for good. 🙂

I've tried the "disable" method and it didn't work. Will uninstall tonight and see if that fixes it. If it does, still need to put AVG back so it isn't a fix, just a pointer!

@Jackal_CB The only thing that stands out to me in your dxdiag is the Razer gear, Razer software is known to have issues with the game, but if you've been playing it without issue until recently it's doubtful it's that (unless there was a recent update of the Razer software, possibly).
Did you temporarily disable AVG by right clicking it in the task bar and choosing 'temporarily disable AVG protection'? I know one person found that disabling it a different way didn't work, but doing it that way did. Worth mentioning/trying, anyway. Hopefully AVG will update soon and the problem will resolve, otherwise there are plenty of free AV programs around, I've seen a few mentioned in these threads. AVG does have a history of doing things like this, especially the free version.

Yeh, done the temp disable of AVG so uninstalling is the next thing to try. Game was playing fine with the Razor Gear but I also tried disabling that too with no effect. Will do the AVG uninstall tonight and see what happens.

We have a winner. so firstly let me start off by saying I had already tried this so perhaps AVG updated - but the solution today was to disable AVG.
First I disabled AVG (until reboot) and dropped the AVG fire wall - DAI launched
Then disabled AVG (until reboot) but left its firewall up - DAI launched
Then disabled AVG (for 10 mins) and left firewall up - DAI launched
Finally left AVG active - DAI did not launch
So AVG seems to be the culprit - but disabling it before the re-install of DAI and straight after the reinstall at the weekend DID NOT produce a launch of DAI so... something has changed again and you would have to say AVG updated in the last 24 hours.
So I'll wear humble pie - EA you were not at fault (this time!!). More exhaustive testing of DAI needed as I didn't get beyond seeing it fire up properly but I suspect it is solved for now.
Thanks to all - hope this helps someone!

@Jackal_CB Glad you got it sorted. 🙂
Out of curiosity, I decided to try launching the game (haven't done that in a while), it loaded no problem without me disabling my AVG (it was actually in the process of updating, think it finished just as the game launched). Loaded my game, ran around Descent for a couple of minutes... no issues. So weird how these bugs just skip some people. 😛 Well, that or the update to AVG just happened to fix the problem at that exact moment, which is doubtful. If you feel like doing some more experimenting, perhaps you could try adding an exception to AVG as described in this post, see if it works for you too. 😉

Thank you everyone. DAI is now working.I added DAI to my exceptions in AVG and that seems to have done the trick. @Leora85 Thank you for the nudge about updating my drivers; which I have now done. The 'GEForce Experience' never seemed to work for me, so I would do it manually. After having to re-build my computer I didn't re-install GEForc e and so no reminders of updates... anyway. Updated now.
Thank you once again everyone.

Also i would like too add this:
DO NOT USE Razer Cortex! For me this was the problem, I didnt have AVG so i could not have been the problem!
i tried everything else and did not work.
Razer cortex was too blame for me xd
hope that this wil help someone! 🙂
- I'm using Avast as my antivirus software, and it caused the same problems as with avg

Thank you so much for going through this and coming up with the answer. I had a similar problem and it was fixed when I disabled the shields in Avast. works great now.

Hi,
I tried to run the game, finally after reading all those topics I disabled avast and were able to play.
Today the game didn't start at all, even with Avast disabled:
https://hastebin.com/aboyakihop.texI have a Nvidia 760, never had a problem before..
- Anonymous9 years ago
Sorry, however, there is no guarantee of any sort that merely choosing to run an AV with its features set as inactive is going to be fully effective. If you do not wish to learn how to set up the appropriate exception settings for a particular AV program, then you should be using some other AV that you are willing to invest the time to learn how to use it properly.

Hi, I solved the problem deactivating the Antialiasing in game. This ended the problem once for all.
- Anonymous9 years ago
I would kiss you if I could thank you very much it worked.
- absolutgrndzer08 years agoRising Veteran
Thank you so much! :D I haven't played since November and just had the game crashing and I was like Noooo whyyyyy. But turns out Avast! was my problem, now it's running fine 🙂
- Vancali8 years agoSeasoned Novice
This fixed it for me. Thanks! Apparently at some point AVG either reset it's settings for trusting this program or some such nonsense. I just went to AVG's settings, went to Exceptions, then typed in the path to all my Origin games and voila! The game works. Good thing too as I was set to just reformat my hard drive thinking it was some kind of install error.

I am gonna say NOT anti-virus for me, its probably the graphics in the game hating themselves, going to murder, hack, cheat, main, slaughter, bomb, gas, shoot, detonate and molest the settings until the entire game either works or I take the game, strap a nuke to it, and kick it towards EA HQ.
@KarlThorsten89; If you're going to claim "NOT anti-virus", then you have to post a DXdiag report.
