Re: [AVG/Avast] Inquisition won't open on PC (Re-occurring after Origin update)

Hi, I am having this issue, specifically on loading a save data. Whatever the save is, the game crashes.

I have tried:

- adding exceptions to my Avast

- uninstalling Origin and reinstalling it

- upgrading the NVIDIA drivers

- repairing the game on Origin

At first adding Avast exceptions was enough, it worked for a few days.

Now it has stopped working and I have run out of folders to add to the exceptions.

I have yet to try starting a new game and see what happens, I would not like to lose my progress.

I attach my DxDiag.

@Ulkwos That sounds like a different issue, as the AV issue prevents the game from starting, so players don't have the chance to try to load a save 😉 Though perhaps you need to make sure you've added the save folder to your Avast exception list, just to be sure that's not the issue. You may also need to make sure you're running the game as an admin.

Are there any error messages or anything with the crash, or does it just go straight back to desktop? I do see some crashes of DAI in your dxdiag, but I can't tell much about them.

You can also try removing the ProfileOptions_profile file from your save folder (Documents > Bioware > Dragon Age Inquisition > Save), this will reset your settings in case something has somehow gotten changed.

If the game was running without issues then suddenly started having this problem, what has changed since the game worked and when it started crashing?

Let us know how you go. 🙂

  • Alas no, deleted the _profile file, run as admin, nothing.

No error message, though sometimes happened that windows showed me a message stating that the program had stopped working, it does not happen anymore apparently...

    Attached the last DxDiag.

  • 1)  If i understand correctly @Ulkwos you have already put Origin, DA:I and the saves folder of DA:I into exceptions of your antivirus.

    2)  You have also deleted the Profileoptions, and Profileoptions_options files inside the saves folder.

    So basics??

    1)  Are you running any mods??  If so remove them and repair game.

    2)  Is it only the last save, or all saves giving crash??  If it is only last, then discard it, and move on...or if it is last 2 or 3 do the same.

    3)  Make sure your Video card, audio card and Windows 10 is fully updated without issues...your DX file contained several windowsupdate failure logs in them, so make sure everything is upddated and without issue.

    4)  Have you tried repairing the game using the Origin application?

    5)  Preform a clean boot, to see if it is a program cross interference.

    6)  Report back with results....

    1) No mods, I have recently installed a couple DLC but they worked fine, I was able to complete both of them.
    2) Every save file, as soon as loading should end, instead of starting the game, it crashes
    3) Video card drivers have been recently upgraded, audio card should be the integrated one, as for Windows, it tells me that it's fully upgraded
    4) Yes, several times
    5) I've run windows in safe mode and ran the game. It crashes in the same way, no message, just directly to desktop.

I have the same problem and have been searching these forums for the past 5 hours. Finally one that mentions the same AV as me, Avast. Now I'll await for someone to solve the issue for Ulkwos.

Here's my diagx, I didn't want to make one of these because I'm pretty sure it's going to show a lot of mistakes.... but oh well. Maybe someone can help me play the game I paid for.
