Technically there is no CD version of the game.....yes the game can come on CD, and if you install it, BUT to use said copy, the game must be unlocked on your EA/Origin account with the CD key.  So basically, you bought a useless CD and key.  So the only way to fix this is to buy a new copy from EA, Steam or other authorized retailer.   Yes, a copy on the CD can be loaded onto the computer but it can't be activated without a new valid key and thus it will not work. 

So, bad news for you, but maybe you can find it on sale for a good price.   The CD key is only valid to unlock the game on ONE account and it is forever locked to that account, with some minor exceptions to merging accounts.  Once the CD key is used it can't be used again on another account and selling the key and CD is basically theft if sold as a useful to play the game.  The main benefit for a CD is allowing install of the game without downloading the game from the internet, which for some people with slow or pay for MB downloaded, is useful, but if you have a fast internet, unlimited DL then it is almost useless.
