What platform do you play on?

I suspect the default position of one of your triggers is not calibrated right. Unplug the controller and plug it back in without touching anything. If that doesn't work, try a different controller.

Xbox one s. Did both of your suggestions. Did the reset console/clear saved file/clear MAC address/update controller... even re installed the whole game plus everything else that came with it... and still having the same issue ☹️

I'm at my wits ends

Yes. Also, actually reset the console. It seems other players are also experiencing the problem, in different platforms but I can't seem to find a fix for it here or in any other forums ☹️
