Re: Can't install EA app (INST-14-1612)

I recently bought myself a new laptop and I have ran into a similar problem except it is (INST-14-1603). My sister also got a new laptop and she reset hers while I did not. Well, she was able to download EA App and sims4, while I was having the same problem. So, it got me thinking that maybe I should reset my laptop and see if that fixes the problem. So far by resetting the laptop completely it has fixed the kinks, however I just don't know it will work with this error code. However you may give it a shot. Then if it works, let other people know.

Thank you for this. Part of this is due to all of the permissions, security settings etc having been reset. What causes these specific errors is due to permission(security) issues, or something on the network settings that were reset.

When you reset Windows, did you do a fresh install of the OS or did you just reset to a previous date? Did you follow these steps?

Well, it's been about five months now and I still don't have access to the EA games I paid money for. None of the troubleshooting steps have worked.

And before somebody suggests this is my fault, that my computer is simply not advanced enough to handle things like Installing Software, Playing Games or "Internet", take a look at the attached screenshot. I have over 80 hours in Street Fighter 6. A modern game. A resource intensive game. A game that requires hard drive write access and internet access to play.

@virtualbalboa_gg There has been a new thread here set up with a lot of these errors and what they actually mean. This thread provides a lot of steps to assist with these errors.

  • Yep, and I've followed all three of the suggested steps multiple times. None of them worked.

Just seems crazy that Steam, GOG, Ubisoft Connect, the entire Adobe Creative Cloud collection of software, Onedrive, Dropbox, Firefox, Chrome and everything else I have installed works fine. Call me crazy but I'm starting to think this is an EA problem.

@virtualbalboa_gg We cannot speak to how other programs are installed. We can only speak to the EA App. The 1612/1603 errors are a Microsoft install error, not an EA App error which means that something in Windows, not the EA App is preventing the actual installation path and execution of the EA App Software.

Past just reinstalling VC++, the better step is to uninstall it completely and check the following

    • Install/Repair your VC++ files for the game (Microsoft VC++ Link)
    • Put your device in a Clean Boot then launch the game
    • Download and update DirectX - I create a new folder on the desktop and install it straight into that folder
    • Try Safe Mode with Networking

You can also install another random game that would install all of those anyway to get the most updated versions of them.

Once you rule these steps out, you try a new Windows Account

This will tell you if there is an issue with the one you log into at which point you can run the System File Checker tool

    • Repair Windows
    • Repair your HDD/SSD
  • Your Point 1: The 1612/1603 errors are a Microsoft install error, not an EA App error which means that something in Windows, not the EA App is preventing the actual installation path and execution of the EA App Software.

My Response: I'm expected to believe that, of the dozens and dozens of applications I have successfully installed and use daily, my windows install is bunk.. even though the EA Desktop installer is the only piece of software that has an issue. Also, I never had this issue with Origin.

Your Point 2: Past just reinstalling VC++, the better step is to uninstall it completely and check the following

Install/Repair your VC++ files for the game (Microsoft VC++ Link)
Put your device in a Clean Boot then launch the game
Download and update DirectX - I create a new folder on the desktop and install it straight into that folder
    Try Safe Mode with Networking

My Response: As I have said before, I have done this multiple times over the past few months and it doesn't help.

Your point 3: You can also install another random game that would install all of those anyway to get the most updated versions of them.

I've attached a pic of the 50+ working games I have installed via Steam. This doesn't include all the other games I have installed via other avenues.

Your Point 4: Once you rule these steps out, you try a new Windows Account

My Response: Naturally I've tried this, both with an official Windows Account and a burner 'no email address required' account.

Your Point 5: This will tell you if there is an issue with the one you log into at which point you can run the System File Checker tool

    Repair Windows
    Repair your HDD/SSD

My Response: I just ran this via CMD booted in admin mode. It didn't fix the issue.
