Re: [FIXED] Sims 3 DLC download error, "Something went wrong"

the app downloads and installs the base game of the sims 3, but not the add-on, ALL 19 ADD-ON in my possession,It puts them on hold, I don't know why

I'll summarize in a few words what I did in these ten days so as not to stumble upon other similar solutions:
delete the appEA cache, uninstall the appEA, redownload and reinstall the appEA, open the appEA with administrator consent, I have restored the computer to its factory settings, at this point, with the computer clean of everything, the first app that I installed the EA one (to make sure there wasn't a conflict with other running apps), I also tried the cleanboot procedure, nothing worked.

yesterday I tried to install the customized material from the store, trying to play even just the base game, but I discovered that in addition to not downloading and installing the add-ons, now the launcher of the Sims 3 base game doesn't recognize me not even the customized files from the Sims 3 store, there are no packages to install for the game.

I attached the photos to help you understand the problems I have with the game, everything is specified in the photos .

Let me start by saying that I have been playing with the exact same computer for three years and up until ten minutes earlier I was playing the game, except that I wanted to install a family created by me and not recognizing it, I deduced that I had problems with the game and that is why I uninstalled it to "clean" it but when ten minutes later I went to install everything there was nothing left, just the Sims 3 base game. I haven't been able to play for ten days now, EA support keeps telling me the exact same things, but they don't work, please help me??? I do not know what to do However, I also tried on another computer, a slightly old one that I used to play, before buying my computer three years ago, and it doesn't work on that one either, I have the exact same problem.

I hope I didn't write wrong, I'm Italian, I've been looking for help on the web for days and I finally found this message, I used the translator to write, I hope it's understandable. And, sorry for the tone I use on the photos, but these are the last photos I used to send to EA support (try to understand me, I was a little angry).ys, I'm really desperate, I've always found solutions in these 13 years of playing, but this time I can't.

  • Solved thanks to suggestions from the community, after 10 days of nightmare, I managed to make everything work, both to install the sims3 add-ons and the customized material, I love you guys.
For those who need to unlock the download of the Sims 3 expansions:
I purchased a new code on this site:
    g2a
Only the Sims 3 base game for €2.60
I redeemed the code on the EA app and downloaded the new Sims 3 game, without doing anything else, I continued to download the add-ons and installed them all. Thank you very much

EA's technical service sucks, they only respond with pre-printed answers, not related to the problem, or telling you that we just have to wait, wait for what!!! the sims 3 is still on sale, it's not an obsolete game, because nothing is ever fixed for this game, damn...!!! Thank you guys...

  • I have a conspiracy theory! Here me out. As a diehard fan of Maxis and the Sims franchise (excluding Sims 4), I find it very interesting that EA is chosing to turn a blind eye to the great PC game of all time. You'd think the company would figure out a better marketing strategy and technical support team in order to capitalize on the hype behind a game that launched in 2009. Nope! Instead, it appears to me that they're quietly killing the greatest game of all time by making it absolutely frustrating to play. Interesting that a certain update patch just so happened to occur at the same time as all this none sense. EA cut back on employment in Orlando Florida several years ago. I'm sure we're seeing the effects of that.

@linearfilm I think it centers the Sims 4, many players have remained fond of the Sims 3, ignoring the Sims 4. Coincidentally, the problems that the Sims 3 does not have... mmm... strange as it is, it's as if they wanted to drive the player who is fond of the sims 3 to exhaustion to make him play a similar game like that of the sims 4.
Let me start by saying, this is just my theory and in any case, while I am writing this message, to stay on the subject of the problems of the Sims 3 game, today, after having solved the problems of the add-ons and the installation of the customized material, I have started reloading everything and now it doesn't recognize the store material, it tells me that the game is not updated and therefore cannot install it
Perfect, another problem, it's stressful, really...
  • None of you guys have problems with island paradide and future pack?
the major difference for me its that I have all of them in physical, except these both above

Im angry because I dont think they will ever solve it, and I PAY for it

Honestly no, even if I have other problems, if I try to install the customized material (which until ten days ago went smoothly and I've been playing it for years) I don't start the game, a black screen appears and that's it. If instead I try to install only the material from the store, it tells me that the game is not updated and won't install it for me... God, how angry... I'm sorry I can't help you, you too can try to buy some new codes for island paradise and future pack, you redeem them and maybe this way you recognize them, they cost very little and it's all immediate and easy, I don't know what else to say, sorry

  • @Madjack23 The fact that the only fix is repurchasing the game you already own, and my last email with support requesting they try applying a fresh key to my sims 3 to fix the issue, was denied, tells me one thing:

EA is pulling a scam. And this is highly illegal and despite getting the key from a third party site, I'd still suggest asking for a refund. No one should be forced to fork out more money for this game. If anything, there is enough evidence, that people should be filing a class action lawsuit here in the united states. Because no matter what country you are in, what they are doing is a scam.

G2a is offering a key code at a 94% discount. This is to combat EA's money grabbing scheme on die hard fans that have had the game for over a decade.

But for what damn reason, it's not a cracked game, we are free to buy games wherever we want, you purchased a "game" and enter a code, I swear I don't understand. I'm sorry it didn't work, I don't know what to tell you. On the legal action I agree with you, also because one player alone can't do much, but all together we could make ourselves heard. I had to deal with EA support for ten days, they made fun of me with pre-printed answers, meaningless and useless answers, then in chat, God, everything was so absurd. If you tell me where to sign for a protest or even a legal action, I will sign immediately
  • @Madjack23 In my days, if you owned something already you would not be forced to rebuy it unless you somehow damaged it beyond repair. But seeing as the game is a download, it's impossible for the owner to break the game beyond repair since all the game's install files are kept on EA's end. I'm just saying, you felt like you HAD no choice but to repurchase something you already owned, when you did not even break what you owned.

I refuse to repurchase what I already own. I feel it sets a bad precedence and tells EA they don't need to fix it on their end because they will just get more money from people, thus what they are running is a scam. EA's support does nothing to help help their customers other than respond with automated messages of "Lot of users are having this issue, so just wait for us to fix it", even though they've had almost a year to fix this issue. So no, I'm not going to goto some third party website to repurchase a key for a game I already own, and even if I did decide to repurchase the game, I'd likely just repurchase the base game and all the expansions from steam. Right now, steam is a much more reputable product than this trashy EA App.

Bottom line, was just a suggestion. Yeah you are free to buy games whenever you want, but if you already had owned sims 3, and re-purchasing it, even for very little, the money paid for the new key, still ends up in EA's pocket. They still profit from people repurchasing something they already own that they didn't break. And until players stop rewarding EA for their scams, EA and other AAA developers like them, will never change and instead, will simply keep doubling down.

@KailiaGreenheart I understand your thoughts perfectly, believe me, I'm not that young, far from it. In the last ten days, I made it a point not to even play The Sims 4 (besides, I don't like the game at all and I think they're blocking The Sims 3 to get more players for The Sims 4) and not to buy any other game. by EA. Honestly, if the solution had been to have to buy back the Sims 3 disk to restart the game, I would never, ever have purchased it. I only tried with a new code, paying €2.60, because I also wanted to try this solution, by now, after eleven days of failed attempts, I needed the game for various personal reasons and I didn't want to leave anything unturned, I'll start by saying, I'm a programmer computer science, so I knew with certainty that the problem was not caused by me, but by EA, I had already understood that it was certainly the sims 3 base that had conflicted with some latest update of the EA app. But I repeat, I would never, ever buy a disk for the basic game of The Sims 3 by paying €40.00 for it (to hell with them). However, I believe that one player alone can do very little, the whole Sims 3 community, including those from other nations, should unite against EA, maybe then we could be able to solve something
  • @Madjack23 Yeah, I quite understand. Thankfully, I have The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection and it installed just fine. As for sims 3, if they continue down this track, they will have no one to blame but themselves when it becomes heavily pirated by former ticked off fans.

And as for the Sims 4, I was one of the suckers that were tricked into preordering the deluxe edition back then, spent $70 only to find on release, it had less content than the bloody Sims 1 base game, and more bugs than Carter's got Peels. I vowed then, that I would not buy a single pack for that game, because it was shoddy crap that should never of been made. But by the time I concluded that, the time for getting a refund was passed. So to this day I have only that base game in the library with 0 packs owned. I will never play that garbage. And from what I am reading, even with the purchasing of a new key from a third party site, some expansions could still be stuck not downloading, or, store content wont download. I wrote a strongly worded response to EA's attempt to "close" my case for the second time, stating that if I have to, I will look into a lawyer if they don't at least try, applying a fresh key to my sims 3 as I pointed to this thread and the solution offered, and reminded them that as a tech support, they are bound by law, to do everything in their power, to get customers access to the products they paid for and own. I've yet to receive a reply.

Hello, I have the same problem - any of my add-ons are downloading. They appear as Preparing forever or as Something went wrong.

    Error report number c0c75d46-63bb-4869-b185-240f05cc5e58.

  • So I did some looking into Instant Gaming and G2A and neither site is considered "legit" in fact there's been a number of reports about these sites stealing peoples credit card info or outright scamming later down the road. And the keys they are selling are considered stolen property. Those saying they've fixed their accounts with keys purchased from these sites, are actually endangering their accounts and their credit cards using them.

So we are left with 2 options: Force EA to fix the issue by updating all of our sims 3 base game keys so we have access to the games we paid for, or finding a way to cut out the download from EA App altogether. I think my course is clear, since EA App refuses to work, and EA has shown they don't give a crap about us having access to what we paid for, I will simply purchase the sims 3 bundle on steam since it will include the expansions I have yet to purchase as well as include the expansions I do own and I am assuming, also includes the base game.
