Re: "View Properties" is missing

Update: Since the issue is present on 2 PCs here, I've concluded that it could only be one of 3 things:

1. The issue is in the App. (Unlikely as nobody else seems to be having/reporting it.)

2. The issue is related to my account. (Unlikely but you never know. To be tested by creating a new, separate account.)

3. The issue is related to my network. (Unlikely but you never know. To be tested using a VPN.)

Since I already had a VPN ready to go, I started with testing theory #3 first. So I shut down the EA Desktop App, launched the VPN, and started the EA App again, and lo and behold the 'View properties' option appeared in the menu:

How is this possible? What on earth have you coded that makes the availability of a menu option in the software dependent on some network connection/state and more specifically: What exactly is it looking for to make that option appear?! Is it the source IP of my network? Some form of region locking? Is it looking at a specific DNS entry?

Edit: After a bit of Wireshark "capture and compare", I've found that the domain "sdk.split.io" was not resolving on my network (but was resolving via the VPN). Apparently the unavailability of this domain causes both the "View Properties" and the "Repair" menu options to be silently replaced by "Open install folder".

@SteltekOne Thanks for this information, Wanted to check if anything has changed, or if you've managed to keep your tabs there?

There should be a new 12.45 version of the app available to download.

After making sure the domain name 'sdk.split.io' resolves correctly on my network, the 'Repair' and 'View properties' options now show up in the EA App as they should. (the 'Open installation location' option is now gone instead, but I don't need that one as much.)

This is happening to me, I didn't care too much, but now I want to screenshot my game codes and I can't see the option.

I've never had problems with Origin, the stupidest thing about this problem is that in GFN (a cloud gaming platform) the properties option appears. It's like it's region locked.

Jesus EA, I just want to verify my game codes, you can't even do a properties option, right?

Hey, having the same issue now after finally getting the game to recover all the packs I'd brought... Any idea on how to repair the "sdk.split.io" folder thing without a VPN?

If you're on Windows 10, you can add an entry to the hosts file, which should be located under:

    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

Take note that you will need administrator privileges to edit that file, so you're best off to open Notepad.exe with administrator privileges.

Also, that folder is technically hidden, so it's easier just to paste the full path in:  C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

Add an entry to the bottom of the hosts file:

    151.101.99.9 sdk.split.io

(Press tab after 151.101.99.9 and then type sdk.split.io).

Make sure you save the file once you've edited it.

    Hopefully that should fix it.

Another way might be to add Googles DNS servers to your own.

Once you've made changes, you can test by opening up a command prompt and typing:

    nslookup sdk.split.io

Results should look something like below:

    C:\Users\DC>nslookup sdk.split.io
    Server: UnKnown
    Address: 192.168.0.1

    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: e3.shared.global.fastly.net
    Address: 151.101.99.9
    Aliases: sdk.split.io

    Hope that helps.

  • Woah, thats a lot to try and fix this issue! Thanks for it though XD Really sucks that the EA has let us all down like this. It's so annoying cause I can't repair the game or anything either!

  • @CateHD Unfortunately the user-side fix isn't easy to summarise as the issue depends on your local network and what is being blocked. (In my case, and DC71's case, it was the DNS resolution of sdk.split.io being blocked so I used a VPN to get around that and DC71 worked around it by manually adding that entry in their hosts file.)

Other than EA fixing this on their end (building the app in such a way that menu options aren't dependent on network connections to specific endpoints), the "easiest" thing to test is to use a different internet connection or a VPN to get around any network issues you might have.

THIS IS THE ISSUE IT'S NOT MY SECURITY AS NOTHING IS BLOCKED IT'S DEFINATLEY REMOVED SO YOU CANNOT FIX YOUR GAME OR ADD LAUH OPTIONS YOUR MEANT TO PLAY THE BROKEN VERSION IT SEEMS NOT THE FIXED

  • @DC71 Thanks man for explaining it so beautifully.
I know @SteltekOne gets the credit for solving out this issue himself, but without your contribute we or at-least I could not have solve out my issue.
BTW!!! I can confirm that this method works on Windows 11 Home Edition (English Version) too.
    Thanks again man!!!

Sorry, but that video is not relevant and would not fix the issue of the 'View Properties' menu not being accessible. All that was done in that video was to change the Download location of games which is only helpful if your goal was to move all your game files to a different location. Nothing was done to allow accessing "View Properties" which is used for many other purposes, for example to change the launch options of a game.

  • I'm also having this issue and I tried to do this but I'm unable to save the file unless I'm an administrator on the computer (I am an administrator on this computer).  Is there another way to save it?

Also can't believe EA hasn't fixed this issue yet.

not to mention the game just isn't opening at all for no reason (tried restarting the pc) does anyone have like a sure solution to the problem (cant have a VPN because it messes up the WiFi for the rest of the house)
