Re: Sims 3 incompatible Intel graphics card?

@fangfluffy The Intel HD Graphics is a fairly new chip (or integrated graphics chip). It is not in the game database and has to be added manually by editing the 2 .sgr files. Here is the how to that I use - link - how to add graphics chip to Sims 3 With a little playing around you may be able to change an existing entry for your chip. Just make a copy of the 2 files BEFORE you start editing. The game has to successfully start to create the config files that's why you can't find them now. The game will probably run on your computer but this game has been out for some time (2009) and has not had any improvements in several years. The tutorials are probably a little more advanced for a novice computer user but not beyond what you may need to do as a gamer. This is a typical 3D graphical game and as a gamer you may have to update drivers and edit a file or two. You should have a basic working knowledge of the operating system you are using. You don't have to be an expert (it would be nice) but you need a basic understanding of syntax and command structure. The hardest thing is to know how to classify the performance of the video chip and adjust the files accordingly. The game classifies the video as low, medium, high, and uber. I guessing the Intel 630 chip will be low or medium. and I'm guessing more demanding expansion packs (like PETS and Seasons) may have issues with the Intel integrated video chips.

@roberta591 I've seen that how to before when I was looking how to fix the problem. I was able to follow it, but I'm not sure how to read and edit a .sgr file. Should I download one of the apps Windows recommends for it, or should I change it to a .txt so it can open via notepad? Or is there something else I can do? I'm using Windows 10.

@fangfluffy  you shouldn't have to change anything.  just double click the .sgr file and you should be asked what to use. Just pick notepad. It is a text file and notepad should open it.

@roberta591 I guess my computer hid notepad from me, even though it was there for other files. After some tinkering I got it to let me open .sgr files with it. I'm using the tutorial and did everything for the GraphicsCard section, but I'm lost with GraphicsRules. Mainly, I don't know where the author found the old information numbers to refer to and change. I looked at the pictures on the wiki page, but I can't figure out how they knew what the old card was referred to in the GraphicsRules text. I'm sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but I've never done anything like this and am trying to teach myself as I go.

@fangfluffy The rules line is just the beginning of the line - just insert the R5 match section. It has to be right or it probably won't work correctly or not at all. The cards file is simple - just add a line. This is like programming (only simpler) - if the computer does not like what is presented (written) it's not going to like it. I've attached two partial examples I THINK may work as I have no way to test it.
