Re: Sims 3 University Life Will Not Launch

Have you tried bypassing the launcher???

Go to: C:\Program Files (or Program Files (x86))\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\

and double click the file TS3W.exe

See if the game will load for you that way.  If it does then you have a launcher problem.  A lot of folks do!

You can try clearing the IE cache and see if that helps with the launcher:

Open Internet Explorer

Click on the little cog in the upper right

Choose Internet options

Choose the Advance tab then click the button that says Reset

Tick the Delete Personal Settings Box then the Reset Button

Close Internet Explorer

Reopen the Launcher

As for the superpatch...there is no reason your computer shouldn't be able to open it unless it is corrupted.  Have you completely uninstalled the Sims 3, deleted the folders in Program Files & My Documents and tried reinstalling?  Once you install the base game then you patch...don't try to patch it with expansions installed...I had nothing but trouble when I did that!!!

I also found that my game does not like being patched to 1.69!  Make sure you are using the patch for 1.67...

If none of this works then your best bet is to completely uninstall.  Delete the folders I mentioned earlier, reinstall the base game and patch it.  Then see if it will launch with the launcher.  It may be your expansion.  Is it a disc?  Is the disc damaged in anyway?

Good luck and let us know if any of this helps you :c)

  • Ok...then go to wherever folder you installed your sims to...

Right click on the launcher icon and choose "Properties"...it should say something like this: ""C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Into the Future\Game\Bin\Sims3Launcher.exe""

This bit: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\" is where you should find the Sims 3 folder...you want the one that says "The Sims 3"...

    Then choose Game\Bin\TS3W.exe

That won't work. Any other suggestions?

  • Uninstall everything!  Delete the install folder and the Electronic Arts folder in your documents.  Restart your computer.  Reinstall the base game and patch it to 1.67 (https://help.ea.com/en-gb/help/the-sims/the-sims-3/the-sims-3-super-patcher/).

    Try to launch the game.

If this works then try to install your EPs one at a time, in the order suggested here: http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/technicalhelp/installorder.php

I know EA says it doesn't matter what order you install them in but I can assure you it does!!!

Make 100% sure you have automatic updating off in Origin and in the launcher at all times!  You do not want to update to 1.69!!!

I downloaded the Super Patcher again, and it opened this time!

It is patching a lot of files, is that normal?

  • Once you install the base game and run the super patcher you can ignore the update notices. Turn off auto updating and install your EPs. It will eventually figure out that it is updated. You may get pop ups saying the version you are installing is older than the current version. Just click ok and install. Do not update anything else. If your game version says 1.67 you are good!

And yes...that is very normal...it is a massive patch!

Should I let Origin update itself?

How do I make it where Origin won't update my game

And also, it usually takes FOREVER for my games to download on Origin, is there a way to speed up the process?

Great news! I did everything you told me to....and it still doesn't work... Help!

I honestly am really starting to hate this game! I wish I just would've gotten the Sims 4

Yes. And I can play the base game okay when there are no EP's installed, but when I install them is when I have issues

  • We need to figure out which EP is causing the issue. Try uninstalling again, reinstall the base game, then reinstall and test each EP. Let me know which one is causing the error.

Make sure you install them in the order I mentioned earlier!

I am pretty sure it is University Life that is causing the problem, because before I could play the other EPs for a while but then I would get a message asking me if I wanted to debug something (it actually just happened while I was playing the base game)

  • Go on mod the Sims and find the Crash Log Analyzer. It will tell you what is causing that error!

It won't put a virus on my computer or anything right?

So I just downloaded my Late Night EP and it said that there was a new Late Night update available, should I download it after I did everything that you suggested I do the last time that we talked?
