Multiplayer Nickname System

This suggestion is quite simple - add a nickname/display name system in game. Steam has a feature that allows you to change the display name of friends, but that's strictly a steam-only thing. Having this as an actual ingame feature would be very useful for leagues that run IRL name standards so they can open up their leagues to other platforms/get rid of those laggy stream overlays, and would be useful for esports and league vs league competitions online as we'd be able to add team/league prefixes to EVERYONE, not just steam users.
