VR 60 FPS ASW smoother then locked 90 FPS

Using a Quest 3 headset via link cable

bought on Steam

Game feels very choppy in VR at 72hz, 80hz, and 90hz.

It was also a problem with Dirt Rally 2 VR.

Using Asynchronous Spacewarp with headset refresh rate at 120hz. Even when ASW is locked on and the performance reads 60fps, the game feels much smoother in VR.
In this mode, steering wheel and windshield wiper animations are smooth as butter.

Every other refresh rate even when locked, tested with ASW on and off with max fps, it did not look smooth from inside the car at all, steering wheel and windshield animation were all stuttering.

Windows 10

AMD 6900xt

i7 8700k

Quest 3 via link cable

Anyways, thanks for the VR support, having a great time with it. Hope we can get the kinks worked out

  • Ok, lower refresh rates are mostly fine.
Windshield wipers are smooth at any refresh rate.
Still the in game steering wheel animation that the driver sees is juddery and you can count the rate of response the animation has. Fixing the in car steering wheel animation could help making it feel smooth at lower refresh rates.

Vram usage is way to high. People with 12gb of Vram maxing it out on low settings with a conservative headset res. If you could somehow offload some of this to RAM or a fast SSD will also help.

AA method plus high Vram usage leaves us trapped in a loop hole. We can not get headset res high enough to not have to use blurry TAA because of high Vram usage

    hmm what else?
Hope you don't mind, i'm just going to keep commenting here as i think of things, just tell me to beat it if i'm not being very helpful
