Origin client

Not having had a game via this platform before does it remove the need for the Steam client or does the Origin client just sit on top? ☹️

Is game and patch 🥳 delivery possible without Steam?

This may seem like an obvious question, but Origin is not something I've used before.

    Hey @SteveJackson,

if you purchase the game via Steam, Origin is required to be installed and you need to be logged in, to get the game running on Steam:

However, if you purchase the game directly via Origin or our new EA App, you will be able to play the game directly without any further programs / clients needed. So Steam is not mandatory if you purchase the game via our own platforms.

If you have any further question regarding that, or our EA Play subscriptions, please let me know 🙂

@Cpayne32 I've long suspected that Steam may be a factor in the game's lack of reliability (Steamworks API, Chrome Embedded Framework, Client updates, Steam Cloud, SteamPipe, Steam Redistributables, Anti-tamper (not just Steam VAC, but Denuvo) and binary differentials during updates).

However, upon first glance the Origin software seems just as poor (32-bit???), clunky and not joined up as Steam is.

Will be interesting if it is the case and people using Steam have different errors to those using Origin.

Edit: Steam page says 'Origin and EA account required'.

Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: EA on-line activation and Origin client software installation and background use required. Requires 3rd-Party Account: EA Account

@SteveJackson I very much imagine there will be a lot of bug reports if this is going ti be an issue but I suppose this is going into the great unknown

I can't find information on which DRM Origin uses but articles that state "Denuvo removed from <EA title>" or "list of DRM free games on Origin".

So it's probable Denuvo will be present either platform.

Also the Origin client is expected to be retired for 'EA Play' app, I pretty much think this means the thin end of a subscription model being cheaper / easier than buying the game outright. Kind of reinforces the pricing strategy = "make the subscription sound cheaper".

Gives devs a "free pass" when the game is problematic if your subscription allows you to 'easy in, easy out' of the title and play other games with the subscription value.

    @EA_rephii Hi,

As someone with a different Origin account linked to steam as the one I keep logged in (Apex/Battlefield issues) which username will it show in races?

Traditionally F1 displays your Steam username, which is fully customisable even with duplicate users having the same ID whereas Origin doesn't allow that.

I know many F1 leagues towards the top end of competitiveness and esports require your full name as in game rather than a gamertag.

Origin is substantially worse than Steam, and it's infuriating that EA thinks every game of theirs has to force people to use it.

Well, it looks like the Steam install forces it anyway, so the argument is moot.

I agree it doesn't look great but I will watch with interest any issues that are present in Steam yet not in Origin. Depends on how league racing will deal with MP chat (we sometimes use Steam chat channels) and voice comms seem unfavoured (we use Discord, which also has Discord chat channels).

It looks like Origin has chat and friend lists but they're not Steam searchable or vice versa.

Clesturfeck incoming... (pardon my French, ah vill say zis onlee wernce) 😇.

Agreed, not too happy that I have to use a separate software, but that's what it's going to be with EAs offerings.
