We need to apply "Fast 3" rules to Cover 3 Match

It's Pretty Simple, there's no way that an ILB can get to a "Fast 3" backer and out leverage them in coverage. Which is why teams make a "push" call, essentially where the overhang defender plays the Fast 3 backer and the ILB takes the #2 receiver either vertically or walls them off coming inside.

What we've gotta do now is put that overhang defender defender on and "man lock" assignment which honestly requires WAY too many buttons to press when a simple "push" call will do.

I've provided a link to show how the push call would play out.

Sadly, I agree with you and it's sad.

Year after year we get all these new features and OFFENSIVE plays in our playbooks, while defensive fundamentals, playbooks, and fronts get left behind.

Most teams run split Field coverage these days not the Seattle Cover 3 of 2012. But it's impossible to run Split Field without these critical checks.

I've done all I can do, even sent the latest of MANY links to provide the knowledge to show them how much is missing from match and split Field coverage. But to no avail.

And the Defensive fronts, fughedaboutit...most teams run at least some form of the Nickel Overload front these days to counter Zone Runs out of spread formations. I know for a fact the Niners have ran it since 2017, that's SEVEN years.

Yet and still...only a few teams have it to date.

So yeah, defense has been getting the short end of the stick for awhile. Starting to understand why most users don't want to run any "real" defense, cause we're really not able to most of the time.

I'm trying not to be overly critical, but when you lay the info out there for all to see and get the same results...it's pretty frustrating.

Get a Saban or Fangio disciple on staff, and they'll point those things out in 5 minutes.

  • This is the exact type of stuff I want for the game; better football gameplay, not new modes and coats of paint.

If theyre not already working on this, it might not be doable until next year, given the production schedule and the difficulty of getting that to work with the spaghetti mess of AI systems already present in Madden 25, then ironing it out, doing QA, and pushing it.

    Really great idea though.
