As Steam and the EA App both use DRM, there is another underlying issue as the game download is the same. So putting aside the following

• Wired vs wireless download
• Min specs meet
• Saved on the same drive (launcher and game)
• Mods in Steam

There is an issue causing either the update for the game or the save for the game. I've never seen that go missing personally so it is an odd one.

Can we please try the following and see if the steps work for a new game?

• Uninstall the game
• Move your saved files so there is nothing old to load Steps for Steam
• Download CCleaner Here
• Use the registry cleaner first
• Run cleaner - click repair all - back up no
• Then clean out the browser files

Reinstall the game as normal with a wired connection - start a new game with the same setup, and see what happens.
