Re: ME2 achievements already unlocked?

Just tested this - for those who got the game directly on Origin/EA app, putting the app to offline prior to launching the game is enough.

All precautions @WOlf0Donnel mentioned (backing up and stuff) obviously apply.

  • Did anyone already reach ME2 or ME3 finale and got some information if Paramour or Insanity achievements work? If so please share.

@IBaNaNa-X99I I'd like to know this as well. Have all the achievements from the OT, was looking forward to unlocking them here.

I just completed ME2 and received Insanity 2. Apologies but I cannot confirm anything for the paramour achievements as I had already unlocked them.

    Some notes:

I used Windows firewall to block in/out requests for the EA app as mentioned in WOlf0Donnel's post. I enabled them as soon as the ME launcher opened.

The achievement profiles (the achievement list you can access from the main menu) were different for ME1 and ME2. ME1 had everything except Insanity 2 and 3, ME2 was missing achievements I unlocked in 3 such as paramour 3. Upon completing ME2, Insanity 1 and 2 were filled in for ME2.

I had completed up to Virmire in ME1 before being forced to switch to the EA app from Origin. I received insanity 1 at the end of ME1.

ME2 was completed start to finish using the EA app.

On ME2 I confirm that if you play directly from EA app there is no need to use firewall rules, offline mode of EA app will work. I'm unlocking achievements.

Obviously, as the others people said, delete before the GamerProfile file if it is curropted.

  • Ok for Steam Deck users

All I am doing now is at the first intro vid/first screen that says "Press Any Key" I turn my Wifi off on the steam deck

then tap any button to continue, it may come up with connecting to EA for a short time (very short time) but it obviously does not and your Achievment saves are kept

I am yet to pop any new achievments but steam can usually handle achievments offline as well as it can online

Previously when I done that I got stuck on a EA disconected screen with no way of getting back in game but now this works fine, all this after trying lots of little tricks out (some did work) plus looking at a few firewalls out for linux users.

I still feel EA have made a big mistake that needs resolved so we don't need to find our own work rounds, this had me all worked up and not had any real game play time while figuring this one out for myself

EDIT still not great after a while you are informed of an error about logging back in after a bit of play, an error window you can't close on the deck  so although the above does work, the previous issue I mentioned is still there

EDIT2 Achievments do record fine in steam this way, if there was a way to hide the error message or disable it this would be better

EDIT3 Another way around this is to go to "desktop mode" (I realy don't like playing in this mode myself) with a keyboard connected launch the game, when in the ME Launcher (before selecting any of the games) press "Alt+Tab" to the EA App and switch to offline mode then alt tab back to the ME Launcher, remove the keyboard while your at it and enjoy the game (you can't "Alt+Tab" in game mode and currently no way to set EA App to start in offline mode that sucks)

I am playing ME2 on EA App right now and I finished ME1 on Insanity. Imported my profile to second game and played about 10-15 hours and didn't realize achievements unlocked already. At the beginning in the game when game give me bonus stuff I thought because I played original ME2 I'm getting this prizes. After I read this topic and put the app offline mode and then I started to get achievements. My question is will I get Insanity II and Paramore II? Do you or anyone else know the answer?

I can confirm that Paramour II and Insanity II are obtainable even if Paramour I and Insanity I don't appear as unlocked in your ME2 profile. As I said before, in my case the game correctly imported my number of kills for the "Kill X number of baddies" achievements but not the previously mentioned achievements. So if anyone is getting nervous about it, fear not, for you will get Paramour II and Insanity II. I asssume the same goes for the 3/3 achievements in ME3 but if something goes wrong I will report it here.

  • Well I can confirm that it is in fact...  not consistent.  I just finished up ME2 completing 100% of the game on Insanity doing the firewall trick successfully... and then DIDNT get the Insanity II or Paramour II achievements.  Even my save in the save editor says I've never switched difficulties and that I successfully romanced Ashley in the first game and then Tali in the second.

Neither achievement popped for me, and it's not because the game sees me as already having them.  They don't show me as having them in-game either.

Edit:  So I've managed to trigger them both, albeit inorganically.  I had to load up ME1 again, load a save right before the Saren fight and beat him again for Insanity II to pop.  I then had to load up a save just before heading to Ilos to trigger the ME1 romance scene again to trigger Paramour II.  I got the achievements, but having to go through all these hoops is ridiculous, EA.

Hey, do you guys know when it's going to get fixed? Has anyone at EA said more than "we are aware of this"?

I have that itch to beat the ME trilogy again, but I am not giving a broken penny to EA until they fix achievements.

  • @Ziggomatus The problem exists since May 2021, so my guess would be..never. ME1 has no issues, for ME2 and 3 just follow the firewall guide in post #90, even though some have said that its not working for them. Dont get your hopes up for the trilogy if you have played it recently, old bugs are still there (i died in ME3 and lost all credits and medigel upgrades, had to load a save before the bug).

@AncientMariner87 @AncientMariner87 Thanks for the comment - very helpful. I beat the OG Mass Effect games like a decade ago. I am now on the cliff whether the Legendary Edition eye candy is worth the money or not. Any more fun-breaking bugs like the one you mentioned and the ones with achievements?
  • @Ziggomatus The AI of your squad is stupid (cant remember if it was always like that). I also had a bug that maximized my credits in ME1, it went from 999999 to 9999999. Apart from the things i mentioned, i havent encountered anything else in 104 hours (I am in ME3 at the moment).
