Recently mass efect has become unplayable due to constant crashing. Are others having the same problem as me. This requires a hard reset on the deck after freezing.
I moved your post to the master thread about this issue.
Thank you.
- @49317f7104ae5dcd I too am having this exact same issue! Does anyone have a solution?
As I said, installing Cryoutilities did the trick for me!
- @8807fb9e700419ea I saw your comment & just went to search for this on Steam Deck, but nothing came up in the search (in desktop mode.) Is it under a different name?
You have to download it with the internet browser in desktop mode.
https://github.com/CryoByte33/steam-deck-utilitiesWith it installed Mass Effect 2 still runs great for me…
It does wonders regarding memory leaks in general and stopped god of war crashing for me as well.
I'm having troubles launching MELE on steam deck. When I run the game, it opens ea app but not autolaunch the game.
When I double click the game icon in the EA library to launch the game I hear a sound from and after a few moments I get a message that reads: “An error occurred while launching this game: app running.”
Two days ago I could play the game without any trouble. Problems starts after a game (or EA app I don't know) update.
Product: The EA app
Platform:PC
Error Report ID (learn how to create an Error Report ID in the sticky post)
Which client functionality are you experiencing this bug with? Launch Game

Summarize your bug Mass Effect Legendary Edition will not launch on Steam Deck via Steam
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? 1. Install game via Steam. 2. Attempt to launch game via Steam. 3. You should see a "Preparing game" progress bar 4. Game does not launch and instead shows a "Failed to launch game. An error on our end caused the launch to fail. Try again a little later." message.
What happens when the bug occurs? The games does not launch. It displays a "Failed to launch game. An error on our end caused the launch to fail. Try again a little later." message and goes back to the EA App.
What do you expect to see? I expect to see the game launch correctly 🙂
Troubleshooting steps tried, but did not fix the issue.
- Uninstall and reinstall the game via Steam
- Checked for all updates to Steam and the game.
- Tried multiple proton versions.
The game was working fine before. Well hour that I was able to put in 80 hours. This issue started on 2/14/24 and has continued.
- Hey! I had this issue too. If you’re comfortable with it try switching to the beta channel for the steam deck. It booted up in deck mode no issues with no force compatibility! I really hope this works for you!
Thanks.
Today there was an ME update. Now the game is working in stable channel.
What update is this? Still not working here.
I am back after attempting to play the game on two separate occasions. I was able to put in 3.5 hrs on the first and 4 on the second. The game crashed twice on the first occasion when trying to enter my load. The second occasion, surprisingly no crashes. The game always runs smooth. This entire fandom feed came together because of the crashes on Steam Deck which I believe has become limited to where mostly every user should be able to get into the gameplay fine. If you crash, try again as it's bound to actually work. I found clicking start instead of resume helped. I found loading the game from the menu to the save I have saved manual helped as well. There is no need to force any proton as it should run excellent on Steam Deck. I would love to hear other people's input as I believe the update has helped improve the situation we all came here to voice our opinion about. Thanks EA for listening

This is good. If you are still having an issue with the Steam Deck and have followed the above, or simply performed a reinstall and still having issues, please post with the following
- EA ID/Steam user ID:
- Steam Deck OS version:
- Steam Deck Model:
- Region:
- Date this issue started
- Is it still happening?
- Any other errors?
