Re: [EA app] Mass Effect - Legendary Edition - Achievements don't unlock

There is a solution! I found this from @p0358 on twitter. This is a way to keep the Origin app.

Uninstall EA app (hooray!)

Install Origin app, don't run it, if it runs, kill it via Task Manager (or with fire, whichever is easiest)

Go to C:\ProgramData\Origin\ and load up local.xml in Notepad

Add the following line:

<Setting key="MigrationDisabled" type="1" value="true"/> at the bottom

Save file (as .xml, not .txt!)

Run Origin. EA Popup is now gone!

You can run Mass Effect from here or from Steam. Achievements are back! Woohoo!

From February 14, it is mandatory to install up to a new EA application (EA APP).
This causes problems with getting achievements in ME:LE.
Everything is fine with the first part of the game: you can get achievements. But there are problems with the second and third part - achievements are not counted.

To resolve this issue, you must have the ORIGIN client installed. You need to set the date on the PC to the previous mandatory update date. For example, I set it to February 10th.
After that, when launching ME:LE through Steam, you must refuse to install the EA APP.
Next, we are waiting for the launch of the game and enjoy.
After exiting the game, return the correct date.
    It WORKS!

The computer date change worked for me. I set it to a week ago and now Origin doesn't force an "upgrade" to EA app. I can continue playing.

I set the date back to automatic after playing

  • @GamingRex180 It can be scary the first time you mess with a system file, but do not worry. This is just for Origin, it won't affect any other programs or Windows. All you are doing is adding an extra line into a configuration file. If anything does go wrong, you can uninstall Origin, reinstall and try again. You can always copy the original local.xml into another directory so you have a backup. Hope you give it a try!

Since this weekend the Achievement Section for every Game have vanished. In the EA App and the Origin Laucher as well.

@sesquipadalien As of today, March 5 2023, this solution still works. I fired up ME2 LE and with just the first kill after loading up, the Kill 1000 enemies achievement registered with Steam.

    1) Uninstall your Origin, because the new patch (10.5.122) from EA broke everything again
    2) Download the Origin Offline Installer  (https://download.dm.origin.com/origin/live/OriginSetup.exe)
    3) Install, be sure to remove the checkboxes from the paragraphs about "auto update"
    4) After installation DO NOT log in to your account. Go to "C:\ProgramData\Origin" (attention, the folder "ProgramData" will be hidden by default), find there and open in Notepad (or any other text editor) file "local.xml", the last line there will be </Settings>, BETWEEN this line add this line
(you will most likely need to add an empty line by pressing Enter first)

    <Setting key="MigrationDisabled" type="1" value="true"/>
    5) Delete the three files called "OriginThinSetupInternal.exe" which are located at THREE LOCATIONS

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin
    C:\ProgramData\Origin
    C:\ProgramData\Origin\SelfUpdate\Staged

    6) Log in to your Origin account, now everything should work
There may be a little update notification on top of Origin window, just don't click on it (you can close it by clicking on the cross)

Thanks a lot for that, it still works like that.

But I am flabbergasted... the arrogance of EA, issue completely blocking of achievements for so many players and they do not comment, they do not fix... but I guess that's just standard mode of operations for EA.

So sad.... and here I was looking forward to legendary edition after all the time to be hopefully bugless... (although I understand this is a problem of the EA client)

    I don't have a file "OriginThinSetupInternal.exe " in the folder C:\ProgramData\Origin
