So I have a saved ‘The Sims 4’ folder in my desktop, containing the game I want to resume, titled ‘latest save’ should be the second attachment. The other attachment is from the game I tried to start, save, and then go back to home page to see if the load game had shown up, but it didn’t. I did everything the last player had said to do & even deleted every file except the saved & latest save and completely restarted everything to see if THAT would work, but didn’t ☹️
@klauterbach70 Okay, there are a few possible issues to address here. First of all, any save you want the game to read needs to be exactly here:
Macintosh HD > Users > your username > Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > saves
You can right-click on any file or folder and select Get Info; you'll see the file location under Where. If you see iCloud in the file path, you're in the wrong Documents folder. You can reach the correct folder by opening a Finder window and clicking on Macintosh HD (or whatever you've renamed your hard disk), then following the path above.
Second, please rename the save you want to load to exactly this:
Slot_00000003.save
That number is seven zeroes and then a 3. A save needs to be labeled Slot_ followed by an eight-digit hexidecimal number followed by .save ; it cannot be labeled anything else, or the game won't read it. When a save has a .backup extension, it's treated as a backup by the game, as in, you can't load it directly, but you can use the Recover Backup Save function in-game to access it. Or you can renumber the save and delete the extension manually. But that's not relevant here.
Third, please make sure there is no Scratch folder, or any other files or folders aside from properly-labeled saves, in the saves folder the game is reading.
Okay so I deleted every file except the saves> Slot_00000003.save, then opened origin, repaired the files in origin, opened up Sims & still showed just ‘Play Scenario’ instead of Load Game/New game. I’ve tried starting a new game & saving and going back to the main menu to load game & bring the last one up, but it didn’t work either. I’ve deleted absolutely everything except for the one saved file & went into sims to “start over” all the files & it still didn’t work. Keep getting play scenario. Is there a way to bring old games back IN a new game? Because even my gallery has nothing in it when I make a new household.
@klauterbach70 Sorry for the late reply. Let's try a clean user folder. Please move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop; you may need to rename it first if you still have another "The Sims 4" folder on your desktop. If you get an error while trying to move the folder, stop here and let me know.
Otherwise, load the game, which will create a new user folder. Start a new save by pressing the big Play button—no need to spend much time on it as this is just for testing—save your progress once your sim is in a household, and quit. Then load the game and see whether you can see your save. If you can, quit again and move the Slot_00000003.save file to the new Sims 4 folder. Let me know whether it's available to load.
OMG!!! For the first time in like a month I finally have the option to load a game!!!! But, the only one showing up is the one I just saved, even after moving the Slot_00000003.save to the new Sims 4 folder. BUT I HAVE THE LOAD GAME BUTTON so we’re finally getting somewhere, I could cry. I just don’t know how to get the Slot_00000003.save recovered.
@klauterbach70 Please double-check the save name, for example count all the zeroes, just in case it's really that simple. If that doesn't help, would you mind sharing your save? I can see whether it loads for me. Just upload it to a free filesharing site (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) and link it here.
It says the file attachment was not supported to attach the file. But here is the link to the google drive https://drive.google.com/file/d/1puOoEWrOM81n0Rc41cwcCbRmSgklk_Pz/view?usp=drivesdk
I checked for file name and all, just doesn’t open. BUT, in my new world that DID get saved, none of the homes or empty lots are residential. They all have an orange exclamation point above them saying it’s a non residential lot, when I tried to move another household into the community. I can’t catch a break & guess I have no idea what I’ve done.
@klauterbach70 What you uploaded is called Slot_00000003.save.tmp , and it's also too small a file to be a proper save. (Even a brand-new save is about 4 MB, and yours is 831 KB.) So I think it just doesn't have enough data to load properly. More to the point, it doesn't have the data you've been hoping to recover.
If you have any older saves that are at least 4-5 MB anywhere on your computer, you can try renaming and recovering those. Hopefully you'll get lucky.
For the new save, the orange exclamation points appearing is a known issue:
It would be helpful if you could upload the affected save (the new one with the exclamation points, not the one you've sent me) to the thread and tag SimGuruNick, who asked for saves on page 7. The way you shared your save with me works fine.
For the problem itself, it looks like some people have been able to solve it by uninstalling and reinstalling the entire game and playing without mods. I don't know whether that necessarily fixes already-broken lots, but if it doesn't, you could try downloading lots from the Gallery to replace them.
please help me
when i start my sims game
only play scenario is showing up
please tell me anyone
