I don't think this is a problem with the download. Issues such as the one you are experiencing can usually be traced back to a damaged controller (even if it works in other games).

Can you please report back to me if you were able to get into the game using another controller?

SOLVED: seems my USB wired joypad was not compatible with this game, but by buying a new original PS3 wireless joypad, now everything seems fine.
