Well, may as contribute since there hasn't been a decent response and this needs more attention.
I've spent an embarrassing amount of money on packs, and then even more on this event for the shards. When I saw the shards come out of a normal pack I immediately grew concerned and after a quick search found many topics on the issue.
I'm not quite close enough to 500 packs to drop more money to verify if I get one (and frankly, I don't really feel like giving EA more after this scam), but I was closer to 500 than 0. I'm not sure what's worse, if this was intentional or if it was an oversight. Either way, its a slap in the face of the people who throw the most money at their product.
