UI not rendered in legend select screen

Product: Apex Legends
Platform:Steam-PC
Please specify your platform model. PC
AMD or Nvidia Model Number Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060
Enter RAM memory size in GB 8
What is your gamertag/PSN ID/EA Account name? N19htf0x
Please provide your squad mates' gamertag/PSN ID/EA Account name if possible. N/A
Are you using any software with an overlay? No
Which Legend were you playing (if applicable)? N/A
Which Legends were your squad mates using (if applicable)? N/A
Where did the issue occur? Loading into the match from the lobby
Which part of the map or menu were you in? If you don't remember the exact name, please describe the area or what you were trying to do in the menu. Legend Select Screen (Ranked)
What were you doing when the issue occurred? E.g. respawning a squad mate at a beacon, using an ability, a squad mate left the game. Selecting legend for a ranked match
Did your squad mates also experience the issue? No
How many matches had you played in a row before the issue occurred? 3
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm) 6.3.21 22:30 JST
How often does the bug occur? Occasionally (10% - 49%)
How severe is your issue? Major impacts to gameplay
What happens when the bug occurs? UI for selecting legends, as well as cursor and sometimes the model of the legends themselves is not loaded and it is impossible to select legend. This means that if my currently selected legend is chosen or I wish to play a different legend than I had from the last game I'm forced to play with a random legend for that game. This is particularly annoying when I'm queued up for a ranked game.
What should be happening instead? UI should be loaded properly every game
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Load into a ranked match. this is a random issue but could potentially have something to do with alt+tabbing out of Apex and coming back but this is not confirmed.

No legend selection UI is visible and cursor is not shown either.

  • Hi @N19htf0x

    Thank you for the report!

Have you tried verifying the file integrity for Apex Legends in Steam to see if that makes any difference? You can find more details on how to verify the files at the Steam Support website

Let me know if you're still seeing the same UI issues after that. Thanks again.

    /Kent

  • Yes I have verified the files.

his only happens very occasionally but it has they chance of forcing me to use a random legend when it does.

I update and verify files through steam quite frequently so when this happens I can be fairly sure that that would not have changed anything.

    Hi @N19htf0x

    Thanks for following up!

Have you noticed any consistent pattern of what's happening in-game before this happens? Is it usually the first match of the day, or do you see it happen after you queue up for another game after going back to the lobby?

  • Its usually the first match of the day I think. Perhaps the model cache getting loaded is somehow superceding the ui and causing it to not render?

Hmm, a caching issue is possible. Do you always run into the compiling shaders message when you first start the game?

  • No, I only get the compiling shaders message sometimes.

Gotcha. There was something else I was curious about.

What happens if you start your PC in a Clean Boot before you launch Apex Legends? Does that make any difference?

If you need more info on how to set one up check out the EA Help website. Let me know if you still see the same thing happening afterward. Thanks!

  • I think that will require some more investigation. As it is an intermittent issue and doesn't happen too often I'll check back when I figure out more.

  • As a note my pc is dual boot archlinux / windows 10. Most of my computer usage is on the arch partition and I reboot into windows pretty much for Apex exclusively so most of the time its launched directly off a clean boot anyway, but sometimes I use kovaaks first so that could possibly be a factor.
