Newbie question, ranked or not?

While I may have play 1 or 2 years ago (or more?) when it was released.... for like 1 month... I haven't played in a very long time.

+ from my rank in Overwatch I know I am going to be bad at this game (being old doesn't help much hey?! )

Anyway, I like the art and exploration feeling of the game and want to give it another go.. Though I am stressed of being a detriment to my team mates....

So the question is... should I go straight into ranked? Being in a Bronze game should match my skillset! (we start at Bronze, right?)
Of should I play unranked 3v3?

I don't mind losing, but I will feel bad causing my squad to lose... what's your advice?

Also.. 3v3 or Arenas?

  • @superlloyd Just like the game itself the matchmaking is also a cointoss you can end up with fellow players that are new/returning to the game or you get teamed up with players that have been sweating their balls off throughout the whole season. If you're that worried about being a sandbag for your team you can go no-fill to get a feel for the game(although you'll be alone making the game a little bit harder). My suggestion is to just play the game to the best of your abilities, play around your team and don't get left behind. If anyone starts to flame you just mute them and don't interact with them. Pubs is best if you want to get in and out of a game fast but if you want your teammates to stay play rank(watchout cause you might get paired against smurfs tho)

As Daze623 said, don't worry about letting down your squadmates. It's the nature of solo queueing, it's the nature of sbmm, it's the nature of the game. Some days you carry, some days you get carried.

As for ranked vs pubs, the only thing I'll say is this: don't expect ranked to be the place where you get tighter sbmm and teammates (and enemies) closer to your own skill level. It's pretty much just the wild wild west right now. Age of game, tons of smurfs, dysfuntional matchmaking... whatever the reason.
  • @superlloyd Even with the current state of ranked I think it's good to spend at least some time grinding it.

When you hit your peak, you'll be in lobbies with people who are slightly better than you. That is going to force you to look for ways to improve. Maybe it's movement improvements, gun improvements or ability use.

I spent a ton of hours last season grind solo up into Diamond. There were times it was frustrating.. How ever my over stats this season are up and a decent amount.

So I think yes you should spend time grinding ranked. When it gets frustrating for you, spend a bit of time in PUBS and have some fun.
  • @superlloyd Don’t play rank since you don’t get to shoot as much there. Practice your aim first before going into the sweat fest that is rank right now.

Play pubs and play control like what bathwater have said.

Does not matter much what mode you play. Find a mode that is the most fun for you and play that, having fun is the most important thing, if it is not fun then just put it away and wait to a later date and try again.
