Not feeling the update at all so far

The TTK is definitely too fast in my opinion. With how the game promotes movement abilities, and 20 tick servers, it's just not enough time to react or to engage in interesting duels. I thought I was going to like the lower TTK a lot more, but so far it's just exacerbating the issues we had before. It's not solving anything. I heard Respawn though fights were taking too long, so that's why we got this change. It was exciting to go back and forth, fighting for position, then finally someone gets a down, and you push that. It took a lot of team coordination to finish fights quickly.

The UI continues to get more and  more complicated and cluttered. I find it overwhelming, always have, never understood the appeal the store front either. Too much going on. Also, the POI labelled in game, it's just not needed and looks awful. Reduce visual clutter in one place, just to add it back in other places.

It feels like they don't understand what the game is because they probably don't play it enough. These wild swings of pushing different metas isn't working for me. I like the idea of some underused, under performing classes get a bit of a buff, but they keep doing 5 different things that are too much.

It's feeling less like a BR, and more like TDM or something. Apex was the ONLY Battle Royal that I liked, because it gave you chances to come back in, and the TTK was higher. It has a cool world to walk around in.

This is my first impression, it's just my opinion, so doesn't really matter, but so far it's kinda disappointing. It feels more like they shifted some numbers around rather than add anything. I don't even like Ashes new dash thing. She's been my main for the past several seasons, and the only thing that needed fixing was her ULT not going where you marked a lot of time, or it would jitter between ledges. We now have even more legends warping around. 20 tick servers and quick movements don't work. Design your game around the constraints you have given yourselves FFS.

  • Clearly, whoever is supervising this has been spoiling the game for several seasons. Really, give us some "fresh" head who will come up with normal ideas and balance this game.

Well, I did say first impression, but I still stand by everything I wrote after playing a bit more.

Whenever you're manufacturing something, designing software, creating anything, you always have to ask yourself "how does this add value to my product". What issue did Apex have that it's trying to solve with lowering TTK? I have no idea, and never spent a lot of time thinking about it, because it just doesn't make sense for Apex. 20 tick servers is a huge part of that. You can't lower the TTK and expect it to feel fair or accurate with that constraint.

Fights were taking a while, but that was due to the over-tuning of the Support class. All we saw last season were shields, bubbles, and walls. Now we swung into a whole new direction, but why? Just to "freshen up" things, again, so soon? Little changes can have a big impact, especially when you do a few of them at a time. Personally, I find way more enjoyment when a game is balanced.

The lower TTK doesn't help lower skilled players either! I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion. Track aiming is harder, and there's still the issue with controllers being too dominant because of their aim assist, but a better player is going to still have an easier time with this change. Chances are if they're a good Apex player, decent track aiming is essential to that. I really think when you're saying that, you're imagining something like BF or COD like I said earlier. You can fight off better opponents in those games, even when being outnumbered, IF, you have the better positioning. Positioning is so macro in Apex, that setting up for a better position usually doesn't matter that much, unless one position is wildly inferior.

I've been playing on and off since season 4, so by now I can kinda tell right away if I'm going to like the changes or not. I was excited for this, but really worried, because even on paper this didn't sound like it was going to work well. Also, "content" has mostly been re-working legends and shifting numbers around. Can we get some new sights or new loot systems. I'm thinking like attachments, customizing weapons outside of matches, anything like that?

Apex is feeling less like a BR now. The guaranteed weapon loot bins take away from actually looting. The pacing was better last season. I'm still getting 3rd, then 4th, and so on, so TTK doesn't seem to do anything for that. People seem to be gathering towards the end of circle 2 and beginning of 3, and all of a sudden the match is over. Last 5 teams battling it out in circle 3!?

Yeah, I'm not really feeling ANY of these changes. The more I think about, the more annoyed I get. So the new season released and yet I'm finding myself wanting to play BF instead.

I guess we disagree my man, and that’s totally fine. 🙂

But, I do think people should give it more than 1 day before ripping up their carpet as there are some good changes in this update that many are overlooking. If they keep catering to streamers and giga-sweats the game will die rapidly and IMHO I think it’s those players who benefit most from a high TTK.

Hope you have a change of heart and continue playing. If not, the meta will be adjusted again if history is anything to go by.

That said, I’m super frustrated by the state of the servers at the moment and think EA are pigs who have over-monetised the game and suffocated Respawn’s creative direction so I’m not without my criticisms.

There's so many things they could do to add actual content that wouldn't be that hard to do.

Like they could make more sights. Maybe we could make our own? Something persistent through matches? How we have skins, we could customize the zoom, the shape of the optic, the housing, and etc.

Either they're working on something big in the background, fingers crossed, or they're creatively bankrupt. Which I doubt is the case, because the game has a lot of great, interesting ideas.

It's always been like that though. You can't just push a solo/duo mindlessly. Nothing has changed in that regard. TTK is still high enough where a 1v3 is still nearly impossible against any somewhat competent team. I understand where you're coming from, but TTK needs to be closer to BF or COD in order to 1v3 consistently, otherwise, no change whatsoever. 20 tick servers is an update every 50 ms, that's not fast enough if you're going to lower the TTK.

Giving criticism isn't about adapting or whatever, it's about what made the game more enjoyable to play. Season 23 did a ton of stuff right, they over-tuned supports though, and people just look at seasons as a whole rather than the individual changes.

Apex isn't supposed to be a tactical shooter, and this new TTK doesn't fit the game. It also makes movement less important, which I'm a fan of them getting rid of super-glides, and even tap-strafing, but lowering the TTK isn't the move.

Huh, I don't find that at all.  Maybe because I'm always dead.  Not liking this one bit.

  • Loving the lower TTK. Gives you a fighting chance when you are down 1v2/3 as teams can’t braindead push knowing they have the numbers advantage. Rewards positioning and smart rotations more than ever.

Play cover and think about your movement, in time you will adapt and get used to it.

I agree with the Time To Kill. Too fast now. Combined with a slow server tick rate, never a good idea. After one BR round last night i switched to Mixtape, and it was just too fast. Apex is not COD or a fast arena shooter. Weapon balance and time to kill was just fine. Getting tired too of the constant meta changes without real new stuff or some exciting events. Faster TTK caters faster matchmaking and queing, With different MM and lower player counts, longer quing was an issue in S23 (mostly late hours) to me in central Europe with many servers around. But that fast TTK is just no fun. Getting shot in the back by campers or luckers who happen to come from anywhere. And hearing them coming properly ... haha good luck **. There's hardly time to react or take cover unless you react lightning fast. And then there's the bloody slow server tickrate, and the usual lags... Not a good match.

The UI went from decent to cluttered, i garee too.

Its gonna be a year (and a half)? of doing things better or apex 2.0 won't be even a big thing anymore. Or it will be short lived if 2.0 only means "new ideas to monitize apex better" and just shuffle some maps, legends and meta around

Sure they can add new stuff, more things from titanfall. We'll see. But audio updates (** positional sound is a disaster in this game), some networking updates or let's say 30 or 40hz(wishfull thinking here) tickrate? Thats gonna take real big effort , time and money ... Changing tickrate from 30 to 45hz and more fine tuned networking helped BF al lot 1 year after the crappy BF4 launch for ex. Due a community testing environmet program. But again, time and money ...

I get it, EA wasn't happy with the revenue in 2024. But one new map can only bring a lil more intrest for  a bunch of weeks. You cant recoler every skin 3 times , create inspireless events that evolve around the store mostly, while youre base game is getting stale and people are bored out, and hope to get big revenue.
