I guess we disagree my man, and that’s totally fine. 🙂
But, I do think people should give it more than 1 day before ripping up their carpet as there are some good changes in this update that many are overlooking. If they keep catering to streamers and giga-sweats the game will die rapidly and IMHO I think it’s those players who benefit most from a high TTK.
Hope you have a change of heart and continue playing. If not, the meta will be adjusted again if history is anything to go by.
That said, I’m super frustrated by the state of the servers at the moment and think EA are pigs who have over-monetised the game and suffocated Respawn’s creative direction so I’m not without my criticisms.
Well, I did say first impression, but I still stand by everything I wrote after playing a bit more.
Whenever you're manufacturing something, designing software, creating anything, you always have to ask yourself "how does this add value to my product". What issue did Apex have that it's trying to solve with lowering TTK? I have no idea, and never spent a lot of time thinking about it, because it just doesn't make sense for Apex. 20 tick servers is a huge part of that. You can't lower the TTK and expect it to feel fair or accurate with that constraint.
Fights were taking a while, but that was due to the over-tuning of the Support class. All we saw last season were shields, bubbles, and walls. Now we swung into a whole new direction, but why? Just to "freshen up" things, again, so soon? Little changes can have a big impact, especially when you do a few of them at a time. Personally, I find way more enjoyment when a game is balanced.
The lower TTK doesn't help lower skilled players either! I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion. Track aiming is harder, and there's still the issue with controllers being too dominant because of their aim assist, but a better player is going to still have an easier time with this change. Chances are if they're a good Apex player, decent track aiming is essential to that. I really think when you're saying that, you're imagining something like BF or COD like I said earlier. You can fight off better opponents in those games, even when being outnumbered, IF, you have the better positioning. Positioning is so macro in Apex, that setting up for a better position usually doesn't matter that much, unless one position is wildly inferior.
I've been playing on and off since season 4, so by now I can kinda tell right away if I'm going to like the changes or not. I was excited for this, but really worried, because even on paper this didn't sound like it was going to work well. Also, "content" has mostly been re-working legends and shifting numbers around. Can we get some new sights or new loot systems. I'm thinking like attachments, customizing weapons outside of matches, anything like that?
Apex is feeling less like a BR now. The guaranteed weapon loot bins take away from actually looting. The pacing was better last season. I'm still getting 3rd, then 4th, and so on, so TTK doesn't seem to do anything for that. People seem to be gathering towards the end of circle 2 and beginning of 3, and all of a sudden the match is over. Last 5 teams battling it out in circle 3!?
Yeah, I'm not really feeling ANY of these changes. The more I think about, the more annoyed I get. So the new season released and yet I'm finding myself wanting to play BF instead.
