@BizzyVaping wrote:@CyberDymeSteam numbers alone doesn't say much though considering the game is out on 5 stores and I would imagine that besides maybe Epic gamestore, steam is likely the store with the lowest playerbase.
Im sure all platforms have seen a drop, but until actual numbers are released its pure speculations and really not that interesting tbh
Also consider that say 100k is the full player base fir Steam then 30k playing per day on any given day isn't bad either. A lot of these players that are not playing don't automatically not enjoy the game, it just means they are not online playing all the time...
@zbran1True.
Most people I know don't play at all from monday to friday. Kids, family, the gym/other hobbies take up the small amounts of time most people have left over after work.

But weekends give a more accurate picture of the player base. Would be great if EA would show the player base again.

First week sales does not equal long term profitability. First week sales include the pre orders etc.
This game was shoved out for the Christmas sales window, and going by the drop in players even on Xbox that I've seen (who will tell friends to avoid) and the general hate train and countless YouTube rants about the game I doubt this game is going to generate the excitement for the holiday sales.
I'm willing to bet total overall sales for this game will be less than BFV by full fiscal year. Unless of course they add in the core features, destruction better maps etc that the community wants then maybe the hype will return and the sales will bump
- 4 years ago@SirBobdk The numbers will come out eventually.
EA has shareholders/investors they have to inform. My guess would be that we'll know the exact numbers on everything in a few months time

I get to play a lot more than I used to over the last couple of years as my kids are a lot older now which means they do their own thing.😊

We may need to put best week sales into perspective.
While In itself this is a good thing there are numerous factors that could potentially play a part in this and by itself it’s just a potential indicator and in no way “proof” that the game is a “success”
For example the gaming market has been expanding steadily for a good number of years (larger revenue than movies/music combined iirc) as it’s moved out of its nerd/geek origins. This means a larger market so even if you grab less market share than before your overall sales will still be up. As there’s an increasing number of people on the planet and increasing access to technology this will keep going up for the mid-term at least.
covid - a generalisation but a pandemic meant more time on peoples hands so potentially more sales
marketing - people were hyped by the marketing, remember the frostbite tech demo of the building having granular destruction? The imagery of large scale battles, chaos, the pilot jumping out of his jet and rocket sniping the other aircraft? (Has anything like that happened yet in 2042? Genuine question) the marketing was successful and people bought the game.
These meant the game was bought but offers no evidence one way or the other as to a games long term success. If EA/Dice have calculated that they can make all their money in sales then fair play. If however they’re banking on post-sales income they’re on thinner ice.
I saw the post stating steam players are down and people jumping all over the thread saying it’s not the full story and it means nothing. Of course it’s not the full story but like any mori poll it’s a snapshot and indicative of a potential trend and is a data point. It’s should be treated as indicative of the average gamer unless theirs evidence that people playing via steam are somehow playing a different game and/or have different tastes/expectations to other gamers on other platforms.
Neither “side” knows the full picture and it’ll be interesting if we ever see more player retention stats over the 6 months across the platforms.
As opinion based on the two data points above I think EA/Dice will make their money in initial sales but be disappointed with microtransaction sales through a drop in player retention. They’ll then drop support for BF2042 (like BFV) and move the team onto the next iteration or maybe into this nebulous battlefield universe and trying to take money in from mobile gamers.
I do get the feeling that EA is constantly chasing trends rather than building on what makes a franchise unique.
- 4 years ago@LordVader666 I would be interested to see what those remaining players are playing. AOW? Portal? Hazard Zone? If it’s mainly Portal for old games I’d say that’s a solid rebuke of the companies chosen path forward in relation to this AOW.
