2042 SOFLAM is BFV Binoculars + Supercharged BF4 SOFLAM

in BF4 the SOFLAM only worked with a lower damage launcher, and the SOFLAM user needed to maintain line of sight and be looking through the device to lock a vehicle. Plus you still had to manually spot infantry through the device.

Now in 2042 the SOFLAM gives lock on properties to the main infantry rocket launcher and kills any aircraft in one shot. Plus the soflam is a lock and look away weapon that maintains lock on the target for a period of time after you put the SOFLAM away, and after the user does not have line of sight. Plus, looking through the SOFLAM will spot any vehicles and infantry in view within a very long range.

We have a combination of the BFV Binoculars from the scout plus the BF4 SOFLAM with more utility and it works with a one shot kill launcher. In a game with double the number of infantry and everyone can use a rocket launcher without worrying about their class.

This is a huge oversight and makes it a gadget with way too much utility.

If you want a spotting scope, then make that a separate gadget. The SOFLAM should not auto spot infantry and vehicles in its view.

The lock on for the SOFLAM should require the user to be line of sight to the target, like BF4. If the target goes out of view or the user stops using the SOFLAM, they should loose the lock.

If the SOFLAM stays the way it is it should have a cooldown like the repair tool does. You put it up and use it for 5-10 seconds, then it has to recharge for 10 seconds.

Regardless of any changes to SOFLAM, since the infantry players now have access to a one shot lock on kill for helicopters, pilots should be given an indicator if a SOFLAM has locked onto them. A separate notification on HUD for AA LOCK and SOFLAM LOCK so that the pilot can take the appropriate actions if they are about to be killed in one shot.

I know there are people who just want helicopters removed from the game. But BF4 did not have one shot lock on helicopter kills by infantry. It also had half the infantry this game has and Launchers were restricted to one class that had other drawbacks.

helos should not be omnipotent killing machines with no counters.  for a soflam to get a kill it requires a minimum of two people (3 or 4 against a good transport pilot).  i will not argue with the requirement to stay locked in line of sight for the soflam to designate a target, but no other changes are needed.  if you take away the spotting component there is no incentive to use the soflam in regards to points/exp because you do not get any credit when a vehicle you designated is killed.   it is the only way to combat a good helo pilot, especially against the heavily armed transports and now you want that taken away.

as for comparing gear to previous games, BF4 may have had different mechanics but BC2 had the tracer dart which allowed the RPG to lock on and ohk an attack helo.  since we are looking at past games BC2 should take priority since it's older (by your logic @SpudBug).  i am noticing a theme to the OP's posts.  he seems to want everything nerfed/removed so that he can just loiter above a battlefield and farm.  helos must stay low and fast and show discretion when attacking just like any other player in the game.  if you are infantry and run into an area with a lot of players you are gonna get smoked.  if you are in a tank and drive up on an objective occupied by a bunch of other players you are going to get smoked.  the way things are right now if you loiter in a helo above a bunch of enemies you are going to get smoked and rightly so.

i know helo mains like to fly but there has to be viable counters to them and either we have tools that can be used by top tier vehicle hunters that work against top tier pilots (which will seem harsh to mid or low teir pilots) or infantry just gets completely destroyed by top tier pilots and has zero viable counters to them.

@SpudBug man i guess all these top-scoring chopper players are just simply cheating then.....
Discarded has tons of line of sight breakers, as does Kaleidoscope, Hourglass (besides the open desert) Orbital, Breakaway as well....
but hey i know sitting in choppers in 2042 must be a chore by the looks of it....
