Accidentally wrote too much, don't read unless dev

I was watching this History of Battlefield video and wrote a comment but obviously with a 260min video there was a lot of commenting. Just though a perspective from someone who have played it all since the beginning might be interesting for some, instead of just ignored in the Youtube comments hellscape.

comment:

Without that free demo of Wake Island this franchise would never have been anything. The FPS market was just as saturated as it is today, Quake, Half-Life, Halo, Medal of Honor, Unreal, Tribes, even Planetside just a year away from a "real" developer. There was now way Battlefield 1942 would have ever sold without that demo.

What's funny about Battlefield Vietnam was that the grass they added didn't render past a certain distance. Making the game completely pointless since you could never use it to hide and you could easily see enemies trying to use it for cover. The Eve of Destruction mod for BF42 was far superior since all the heavy vegetation in the mod had longer draw distance.

and there it is, the issue with Battlefield. 49:15. There is no rock paper scissors in Battlefield, there never have been, that's a corporate sales pitch that idiots repeat. Put up equally skilled players in all three styles against each other and air will always beat the other two, a tank will always beat the infantry. For example In Battlefield 2 a jet pilot would never EVER be close enough to the ground that you could shoot him down, hell on most maps you'd never even see him while he dropped the bomb that he killed you with since he was outside your draw distance and he was aiming with the minimap. Stop the lies!

Adding the gun aim deviation from suppression in Battlefield 3 is one of the few actual good "rock paper scissors" ideas DICE has had. Then because the top 0.01% of players kept whining about it, it was eventually removed, hurting the other 99.99% of their players. Will the next Battlefield feature actual rock paper scissors vehicle combat? Of course not. They don't have the intelligence to actually do it fully, nor do they have the balls to * off the entitled MLG poopyheads.

I love how LevelCap manages to have the exact wrong opinion every single time. Completely embodying the all too typical creator type of "I'm almost good at FPS games but no where near good enough to actually play a competitive one like CS or Valorant. So here I am, the anti-new player and anti-retention solo hero, ruining the experience for everyone around me in a supposed teamwork game. Actively working against any and all teamwork in both my actions on the battlefield and in having my elitist * opinions unwarrantedly listened to by developers". If you want to sell Battlefield to the masses again DICE, listen to Flakfire and ignore the ego gamers.

  • @Gremmel

Thank you for sharing the link to that History of Battlefield documentary.

I am a late starter at battlefield, as I discovered it for me only in 2021, playing BF1 first and then BFV and mainly 2042 now.

That documentary is very interesting. I'm about one hour into it, so there ist quite some to see left.

I know this is not what your post is about, but seeing the documentary reminded me how superb the Battlefield theme music was before 2042.

    Thanks again for sharing.

    I'm off to continue watching.

  • wow I lived in Eve of Destruction and desert combat  EoD capture the flag was so fun!!!  Id love to shake the hands of the men/women who were responsible for those mods!!!!!!!!  🍺

  • Fantastic video.

We should be able to FORCE THE DEVS to watch that, so we get a better game next time.
