I really would like to know the purpose to rule out a serverbrowser and put in this useless matchmaking? Why did Dice/EA took this path?
It must be something behind this, minimal serverbias to pay? maby money, greed?
Whatever background for them to take this action it really have backlashed upon them BIGTIME! And i dont see them mention ANYthing abouth this matter
at all, instead they babblin about traverse map, bugs, voip (ok), and other stuff, but exclude MM for serverbrowser is PRIO NUMBER ONE! Because of this endless waiting.
Question to EA/DICE.....
- Why did u exclude the serverbrowser and put in a matchmaking system in AOW 2042?
No doubt because this also gives EA/DICE absolute and full control of players and the distribution of players across their server network, all while removing any transparency/business intel from the players, the community and from competitors.
Removal of any data/business insights:
Due to the MM functionality, then nobody except those running the server network at EA/DICE actually now can say anything with certain numbers on how many players are playing this game. Nobody can challenge EA/DICE to document how bad the server availability is negatively impacting their gaming experience. Nobody can call out EA/DICE for the factual meltdown the game has seen, as they have removed transparency on how many servers and players are active on the global game network. EA have removed any local gamer's ability to validate if they truly have local servers available or forced into playing on servers far away in a different region. EA removed any ability for players to complain about if certain maps or game modes are not offered, despite being part of the game bundle the customer had bought. etc etc...
Crowd control:
With the dictated allocation of a player to a given game server, then EA maintains absolute and full control of who is playing where and when. So both connected to the points raised above but also of course to the cost optimization covered next. But the more sinister undertones is that e.g. they tried to make the Hazard Zone server area better served and more enjoyable for the player population, as this was intended also to be their cash-cow area for the micro-transactions. Now the gaming experience was however so terrible bad that no matter, the players simply did not want to hang around that game mode for long no matter. But similar, they have essentially taken away any independent freedom for the players themselves to quickly see the overview of all servers and decide on which server (region, map, game mode, number of current players) on which the individual player would prefer to join and play! But by doing so, EA/DICE have now at the same time destroyed the ease of how we otherwise would prefer to join up and play together with friends or other players we often have been playing together with in recent games. So we are missing most critical social online functionalities for the BF community to flourish... (e.g. static community servers, emblems, clans)
Cost optimization:
Instead of having to support maybe 2,000 servers to support the gameplay of 100,000 players, now EA dictate these same 100,000 players have to queue at longer times and merge them onto maybe just 1,000 servers instead. And this is of course all much cheaper in operational costs for EA, who typically have server contracts with 3rd party server park hosting companies. So to put it simple, to enable that EA can increase their bottom line profit margins. No doubt though, that EA have obviously driven this profit chase too far and the gamer population is now leaving too early as result and then instead now even eroding the profit margins that were intended to be realized. And it is the recognition of this effect and the dire consequences of this that the EA/DICE executives do not yet appear to realize is their own self-inflicted fault!
Many more reasons exists why EA dictate this Match Making system onto their player base, but these are the main drivers.
And just to make it clear, I also hate Match Making myself and absolutely want/insist that we get the server browser back..!
