@AdamonicI’ve felt the same for a while now. It’s like you get all the info in one packet, reminds me of BF4 with the “super bullet” issue. On top of that, it feels like they don’t miss. I end up dying behind cover a lot, which just makes me believe it’s mostly down to discrepancies in what we’re seeing vs them in the server.
Some things people tend to avoid when talking about aim assist and it’s fairness:
- it locks on to players hit boxes, not their character models. I have to lead my shots like I’m throwing rocks half the time.
- easier to track with visual clutter. On mouse I pull my reticle off someone real quick and flick back. There’s so much visual clutter at times you can’t tell if you’re still on target or not. Aim assist will just stay on target.
- it frees you up mentally. Mouse players have to concentrate and focus pretty intensely when aiming. Once you’re on target with AA it takes over and you only have to worry about recoil.
- with a mouse uneven game performance effects your aim. If the game stutters it essentially messes with your sensitivity and therefore your muscle memory. AA when on target will track through this.
I have some friends on console, and when the game released they would kill me incredibly quickly. I remember one was sniping with a x1 across the map and hitting me! That’s a very hard shot on MnK. My other buddy was using a scout, and he couldn’t miss with that. That’s pretty anecdotal evidence, but still makes you wonder a bit.
I think overall aiming with a mouse is easier because you’re engaging way more muscles. Those muscles are also far more accurate then your thumbs. You can find a mouse for any size hand. Players that are good with controllers probably have above average dexterity and accuracy with their thumbs vs most people. If you had one group use only a mouse to play FPS games and another group use only controllers, I’m pretty sure the mouse group would have a higher percentage of them feeling more comfortable with that device. Mice can fit all different shapes and sizes of peoples hands. Controllers, while most people can hold one properly, I don’t think that means it’s comfortable or works with their hand anatomy. Hopefully that made sense… I tried.
