@CantGetRighteach to thier own mate, if you enjoy it then more power to you, but the majority dont and is also part reason why 2042 is in the dire circumstance that it is.
the classes and its restrictions is what encourages squad and teamplay and is the basis for a Battlefield game. Each brings their own and gel to form a good squad each with their own gadgets etc and having that comradery of having to rely on each other. Also the feeling that you are just a soldier in a war is what helps make Battlefield, none of this semi-hero solo play style malarky.
My friends wont even touch 2042 because of the specialists (and other reasons but a big part is the specialists) I am the only one who plays it. In 2042 there is no feeling of needing a squadmate other than to spawn on them. They literally stripped any enthusiasm and necessity to play as a squad. The specialists are made for solo gameplay.
And the abilities are not needed, BF is not about wallhacks, crazy medical pew pew guns, auto turrets, wingsuits etc. Its just not Battlefield
Dont get me wrong the game is fun for what it is, but its not BF fun, and I dont consider this a Battlefield game but in name only
No, classes don’t encourage teamplay. If a player doesn’t want to participate in teamplay a class will not change that. And many players played the class only for the weapon they preferred instead of the teamplay aspect.
You can still read it in the game chat when players asking, if somebody can get rid of an annoying Helicopter instead of trying it by them self. And these are not isolated cases.
To many players expecting that somebody else is doing it instead of switching their own gear. (Because then they need to get out of their comfort zone)
BF2042 and the specialist system give you the freedom of choice of your equipment and is more open for teamplay ever but to many players are here for a good K/D and not to PTFO.
I like the Specialist system and that they got rid of restriction of a classes is a good thing.

For example there was an annoying stealth helicopter bugging me on the oil platforms on the Breakaway that kept in stealth mode so no one could target him. So I switched to Rao and hacked him which took him out of stealth mode and took him out with 2 AA rockets. I made it my mission to pursue him over most of the map. Now tell me you could do that with regular classes?

Stealth helos should NOT be used for a bellwether for anything Battlefield...

@CantGetRightto be honest I highly doubt stealth helis would have been a thing without the specialists, because it would have made it way more OP than it already is, and totally mess up the balance
- X-Sunslayer-X3 years agoSeasoned Ace@CantGetRight depends if DICE gave the engineer a hacking gadget.....
in BF4 for exampe you could just deploy an automated AA trap to annoy it without lookign through your stinger 24/7....
but hey what do i know- RMEChief3 years agoLegend
Some other reasons why they don't belong:
1. Made for bad/new players - gives them a crutch, same goes for ez mode weapons and vehicles
2. Impossible to balance team based game with unique individual capabilities, this is where we are now
3. Targeted younger players (goofy design - see OG Angel/Mackay) which is the wrong target audience for BF (mature)
4. Made to be politically correct. Was any gender/race/ethnicity not represented yet? Don't worry THEY have more coming. Who cares? Wasted dev time on this instead of working on netcode.5. Completely breaks game narrative and immersion (worst concept ever, no-Pats really?) - This should've been a follow-up to BF4 storylines.
* Note - this post is directly in response to the OP's post and is on topic and perfectly written *
- X-Sunslayer-X3 years agoSeasoned Ace@CountSero in general i agree with the point the players choose to play as a team not the classes, yet in 2042 you can run Falk/Angel for example and essentially ignore all 31/63 players in your team entirely since you can resupply and heal yourself at your own leisure. Angel is in essence a one man army, using the airdrop to use whatever he needs for any given situation....
with classes you are eventually forced to seek out teamates, now ofc there is no garantee that whoever medic/support is near you will be of any use to you whatsoever... yet there was never a loadout in any BF game prior to 2042 where one class could simply do it all. now we have Angel and i garantee it will only get worse if DICE is left to do as they please- 3 years ago

His resupply is not just for him. Other battlefield you could “pick up” classes. i.e. pick up downed medic load out and revive medic or swap class on death to one more appropriate. There have always been medics that don’t revive and support that doesn’t give ammo. It is ultimately player freedom of choice and not the specialist creating the problem.
