@CantGetRighteach to thier own mate, if you enjoy it then more power to you, but the majority dont and is also part reason why 2042 is in the dire circumstance that it is.
the classes and its restrictions is what encourages squad and teamplay and is the basis for a Battlefield game. Each brings their own and gel to form a good squad each with their own gadgets etc and having that comradery of having to rely on each other. Also the feeling that you are just a soldier in a war is what helps make Battlefield, none of this semi-hero solo play style malarky.
My friends wont even touch 2042 because of the specialists (and other reasons but a big part is the specialists) I am the only one who plays it. In 2042 there is no feeling of needing a squadmate other than to spawn on them. They literally stripped any enthusiasm and necessity to play as a squad. The specialists are made for solo gameplay.
And the abilities are not needed, BF is not about wallhacks, crazy medical pew pew guns, auto turrets, wingsuits etc. Its just not Battlefield
Dont get me wrong the game is fun for what it is, but its not BF fun, and I dont consider this a Battlefield game but in name only

You right and wrong at the same time.
Squad mechanics encourage squad play, classes or no classes makes no difference.
I played a lot of BF4 on classic mode servers, and I think that people who played on hardcore servers most likely agree that the team play aspect only comes when there is no
no auto-heal, auto-repair, and magazine management instead of clip management. Then and only then you 'need' engineers to repair your vehicles, and supporters for your ammo crates. I left out the medic/assault because in BF4 the class with access to revives and medic crates also was the class with the access to the best weapon class.
If you played on normal mode servers the number of assault players went up, and it was very common to see 5-person defibrillator assault squads that went from flag to flag.
BFV introduced attrition mechanics, that should have improve squad and team play, if DICE wouldn't have pulled back, and removed most of infantry attrition effects, because the 'normal' players didn't liked it.
Currently everyone has access to the 'meta' weapon, gadget, and specialist, and DICE has trouble balancing that, without all the additional restraints the former class based games had. Do you really believe classes would improve on that?
