DLC had split the player base and the dense CQC zones where closer to CoD than we wanted.
So don’t argue that this is made for casuals since BF3 and the CQC style they are chasing CoD.
And with BF4 many of my RL and online friends left because it got worth.
With BF2042 alle player get the same base, same maps, same weapons so it is the fairest BF for infantry ever. DICE needs only get their stuff together related to the vehicle balance and the Game as Service thing.
And Portal is exactly there for these classic experiences you are looking for. And the system is good to cut down the experience if you stretch the rules to far from original.
Also, adding more and more modes into AoW will split the player base again and this is not useful.
With 128p conquest and 64 player Breakthru we have to mode which giving you the classic experience like back to BF2 with conquest and conquest assault.
And TDM and Dominations are everything but not entry modes. These are the core competitive modes which don’t reflect the classic BF Teamplay Action Shooter formula to PTFO.
I don’t miss these modes.
I am long time CoD player and I despise Search and Destroy - but I don't think it should be removed, just bc of splitting playerbase. Rising interest in series after 3rd game clealry shown, how much playerbase needed smaller, infantry focused gameplay. Heck - even Bad Company 2 shown that with Rush. With more and more complex weapion attachnemt system and more class gagdets to unlock those modes were good addition in overall - especially when for newcomers. Great proving ground BEFORE playing Conquest, even bigger Rush maps.
With abandoning paid DLC model AND most of base maps having designated CQ/infantry fighting areas it should be EASY to make dedicated TDM/DOM maps. Even EASIER to just add permanent playlist for AT LEAST tdm.
But to sustain game with free gameplay-wise content and paid cosmetics DICE must gain traction of both veterans AND new players/casuals. And for both of those groups small scale modes can be nice addition (like i said - for training, unlocks). ESPECIALLY when devteam struggles so hard with proper mechanics design and at least minimal level of balance... While most of maps lacks in cover and additional transport for infantry.
Also so asmall pool of gamemodes screams like copy and paste from League of Legends. Control via few permanent options and constant rotations for additional ones - BUT THOSE MODES ARE ALL CQ OR BT VARIANTS OR 24/7 ONE MAP PLAYLIST!!! NO OTHER (...) OPTIONS!!!
For me since BF 1 this was a big issue. All modes were "fixed". Fixed player counts, fixed amount of points in matches to complete... No options for both tactical DOM with smaller player count or 48/64 Ziba Tower grindhouse, same for other modes...
And know additional layer with lack of server browser for AOW.
That is why this game needs Permanent TDM and/or DOM playlist. Also Rush should get one
To give players variety after so many months of playing same modes with minimal variation in regards of featured experiences.
