Are 12 gauge slugs broken?

They seem to do less damage than buckshot at medium ranges. I can’t even hit anyone at medium-long range w slugs because the rounds are either doing zero damage or the round is disappearing. In fact I can’t kill anyone w slugs at any range. 

Am I missing something? 

In addition the slugs aren’t making that distinct “crack” sound that they make in previous BF games. Kind of a crucial thing for both shotgun user and their target. Knowing you’re taking rounds from a one hit to the torso death, 12 gauge slug,  is something people want to hear.
