I've been a fan of the series since the first game appeared on PC. Since then I've followed it on PC and console, sometimes buying multiple copies to play with friends across different formats but I've never been so disappointed in a Battlefield release as I am with Battlefield 2042. All good bands release a duff album but since Battlefield 1 I feel Battlefield has gone on a slow decline to simplified mass market appeal. This release feels so bare bones with game modes missing from the previous games and features missing. It seems like Youtubers like LevelCap who moaned loudly about suppression have got their way, Battlefield has gone mass market simplified gameplay where SMG's out range assault rifles with greater degrees of accuracy, the class system is all but gone, you can fully load out a gun and go from a long range weapon to short range in a few clicks while running along because hey we wouldn't want something like having to pick one gun to get in the way of a Youtubers multi kill montage would we? Now we have Apex Legends style 'heroes' with different abilities, stupid Apex Legends like cut scenes with repetitive animations instead of just getting us straight into combat. Its all fluff and nonsense to try and distract from what's missing. We've had troubled releases along the way in Battlefield, it happens but I've always felt that despite any bugs there was promise that the game could be improved, that we were just experiencing some teething troubles but with 2042 it feels so utterly broken I don't know if it can be salvaged or if this is just the tipping point of the franchise going completely away from what it was.
