If not we at least need a proper Server Browser / Persistent Server System.

Right now, I could set up a Portal with an alt account on my (sadly ageing mid-range, much like myself) gaming laptop and go AFK on it. With a few command line tweaks, I could stop the game overly stressing the system and using too much power by limiting the FPS and resolution scale. This would leave a Portal server permanently running.
Surely the developers could find a way to make that happen without my having to leave my laptop sounding like a vacuum cleaner 24/7? If the option were available to have the server only run at specific times, then a community could build around it - the problem is that if a server you have favourited is not running in Portal, you can host it, but no one else will find it. It will show up in the server browser, but when you have 1/128, it's hard to get the server going. Managing the server would require switching PCs if you are playing.
The point is that there are lots of little inconveniences and difficulties that all militate against Portal servers becoming popular.
- @filthy_vegans Yep agreed I really was looking forward to Portal pre launch and thought it had great potential.
As you rightly point out Portal has not taken off due to so many difficulties which has left it currently as a bit of a ghost town. - @Phelippecsantos Game needs to be worth playing before this happens.

Most importantly it would help the guys who currently can't even get into matches due to MM issues.
Of course it will definitely need many more fixes / maps etc but it would be an important step if DICE got rid of MM.

As a member of an online gaming community (clan), we always rented a minimum of two servers, usually 4. BC2, BF3 and 4, ATF Clan always rented severs and had no problems getting donations to pay for those servers. I also played on other clan severs, TBG, AOD, etc. Rented servers had admins usually, who could kick cheaters or flamers. They could move people for balance (sometimes involuntarily lol), they could manage the game and make it a fun experience for the wide audience of gamers who flocked to their sites. It also made the online communities relevant, and helped them grow. Playing on uncontrolled public servers with constant rolls, inflammatory and toxic chats, hackers, etc was far less fun. I’d pick a clan server over a pub server all day long as I knew I’d have more fun with less hassle. Those were the days.

The rented servers keep those previous games alive
