I really feel you need some sort of priority list on the work involved in the game as map design is a low priority for many players - although the maps are pretty dull, it's other aspects of the game that make it frustrating to play.
Performance/lag/stutter, no server browser, no persistent lobbies, getting put into nearly ending matches for 10 seconds, VOIP etc - all these things need addressing before map design IMO.
My overall issue with maps is being forced to spawn at the start and then having to run for MILES to get to the first objective, which is always gone anyway. Then when you get there a vehicle comes in and destroys you. Then start again. I can rarely call vehicles in, and there is no other transport available.
The maps don't feel like real places, just small collections of nothing around each flag.
Look at St Quentin on BF1 - that map has so much interest and elevation - small villages, windmills, church, all really different elements that make for a good match. It even has wide open bits, but that doesn't seem to cause issues. The village section is fun because it gives lots of pathways and routes to have battles - but then it can be flattened by vehicles towards the end.
Orbital is the only map that feels fun ish.
But I also believe people will find it hard to offer feedback on some of these things. I know when playing BF1 compare to BF2042 it is 1000x more fun, but trying to put into words why that is is very difficult.
Vehicle spam is one thing I constantly groan about - just as you reach an objective and start an excellent gun battle a Bolte runs you over or a helicopter destroys you and I just groan and start again. You never seem to get more than 60 seconds of combat before you have to spawn again.
